This Season’s Winning Decks
With this season coming to a close, the Infinity Conquest is now open! In this article we’re going to look at tournaments from last weekend, namely the Impulse Pro Series #2 Event’s Top 10 and the winning list from another event.
You can also view this content here in video form with gameplay examples and some additional thoughts on the top decks!
First we’ll look at a breakdown of the 11 decks that performed at the top of this event.
- Loki (7 Represented)
- Zabu Darkhawk (5 Represented)
- Bounce (1 Represented)
- Werewolf Silver Surfer "Silver Bullet" (1 Represented)
- Zabu Helicarrier Loki (1 Represented by Johnson)
Loki
Most Loki lists are pretty similar with only a few small card changes. Every list I was able to find played Beast or Quinjet but not both. This list was played every round in a 77-participant closed decklist tournament this week to land xUrb4n a 1st place finish!
Quinjet Loki w/ Werewolf
Agent 13 and Luke Cage are standout inclusions from this list though not completely unique. Here’s a full breakdown of all cards across the 5 traditional Loki lists that I was able to find.
The remaining 4 Loki decks + Johnson’s Helicarrier Loki made up places 10 through 6 in last weekend’s larger, 186-player event, with no Loki players cracking into the Top 5. While Loki is an incredibly powerful deck, there was one card that really took the weekend.
Darkhawk
The three Zabu Darkhawk players could agree on half of their deck, with some different packages otherwise. Mrs. Marvel is incredibly strong, able to dish out 15 power for as little as 3 energy off Zabu. You’d have to pay double that for Doctor Doom, which many are also willing to pay for.
4th place OwiCast opted for the flexibility of Alioth while 2nd place kx4n included Invisible Woman, Mobius, and Shang-Chi. The winner of the event, Dark Blaster took a different approach with several unique picks.
Zabu Darkhawk
This list really looks to go over the top with Mystique serving as extra copies of Darkhawk, Mrs. Marvel, or even Devil Dinosaur, which can lead to huge point swings in a Zabu-discounted final turn. The deck also includes Snowguard, which I pinpointed last week as possibly the best card in the game at the moment. I chatted with Blaster Dark for a bit after his win and he told me that his favorite moments from the event came from Agent Coulson in the finals. Both clips can be seen in this article’s accompanying video. I don’t want to spoil them here! Coulson and Devil Dinosaur he considers his lucky cards, and he enjoys that the randomness makes his possible plays difficult for his opponent’s to predict.
His matchups were also lucky, as he went 1-1 against Loki decks in the Swiss, but beat opposing Darkhawk players 5 times! His remaining Swiss match was against a Junk deck, and then in the Top 8 he beat Bounce, Darkhawk, and Darkhawk again!
More Loki & Darkhawk
While I don’t have the exact lists to add their data to the totals above, I know of two other tournaments that happened in the past week, both that concluded with Darkhawk defeating Loki in the finals!
I also wanted to highlight one more Loki list off the beaten trail from Johnson!
Zabu Loki by Johnson
Johnson first threw this deck together for a tournament a few weeks ago, and he was able to use it again this weekend to crack into the Top 8. While not the typical Loki take, it’s impressive that he’s able to perform with it and stand out while not running the traditional list. It’s also just fun! You can watch gameplay from this deck and the decks to follow in the accompanying video!
Silver Bullet
"Silver Bullet" by YoWoodyMJ
This take on Silver Surfer is incredibly powerful, playing a suite of 3 disruptive movement cards that can trigger Kraven, though most of Kraven’s points will come from Werewolf by Night, the best 3-cost card in the game at the moment. Next season is looking to introduce some competition for that role, but they may all be able to be friends in this list which took YoWoodyMJ to 3rd place.
Bounce
Werewolf Bounce
Bounce is a tricky to play yet rewarding deck that many top players are fans of.
