Bar Sinister

After you play a card here, fill this location with copies of it.

Is too much of something a bad thing? How about four or more of the same thing? Bar Sinister gives us the opportunity to find out. While many players treat this location similarly to the Space Throne, it can definitely be built around without hurting your deck, generally speaking. Bar Sinister is also a fantastic location to read how your opponent's deck most likely is based on what card is played (or not played) into it early in the game. This leads to an exciting location and a fun theory-crafting feature!

As a featured location, it will have a 50% chance to appear in any ladder match. Now you must make a choice:

  • Build INTO It
  • Build AROUND It
  • Ignore it

How to Build INTO it

Venom
On Reveal: Destroy your other cards here. Add their Power to this card.
Rockslide
On Reveal: Shuffle 2 Rocks into your opponent's deck.
Silver Surfer
On Reveal: Give your other 3-Cost cards +2 Power.
Spider-Woman
On Reveal: Afflict all enemy cards here with -1 Power.
Spectrum
On Reveal: Give your Ongoing cards +2 Power.
Arnim Zola
On Reveal: Destroy one of your other cards here to copy it at the other locations.

  • Venom is a stellar Turn 5 play here when paired with a 2-drop. The goal is to play The 2-cost card, followed by Venom in the Bar Sinister lane. That way, Venom will consume three 2-drops, followed by itself three times as well. This can scale incredibly high, especially with Arnim Zola afterwards.
  • Rockslide is a big play here at a decent five power, but more so for interference by the opponent as well as the amplification of Darkhawk (one of the most popular cards in Snap).
  • Silver Surfer could make a strong showing today if you begin to see the pattern emerging on the opposite two lanes prior to turn six. Adding +8 to each 3-cost card is too tempting to miss out on for a Silver Surfer player, so be prepared. Spectrum shines in the exact same way, so keep an eye on your 3-drops and your ongoings.
  • I love Spider-Woman here as a sneaky turn 6 play. She essentially becomes a 5/12 and can mess up multiple ongoing decks as well.

How to Build AROUND it

Ghost
On Reveal: Remove the abilities from all End of Turn cards here.
Green Goblin
On Reveal: Switch sides.
Shadow King
On Reveal: Reset all cards here to their original Power.
Shang-Chi
On Reveal: Destroy an enemy card here that has 10 or more Power.

  • Green Goblin is one of my favorite combos with Bar Sinister. Sending over four Goblins and leaving yourself with one practically guarantees the victory in that lane, so I think most everyone should run Green Goblin in all decks during this featured Location. But if you don't run Green Goblin...
  • Ghost works well here from a defensive aspect in an effort to undo some of the damage that Bar Sinister inflicts with On Reveal powerups.
  • Shadow King gets a shoutout too for reducing the buffs that could happen from cards like Venom, Silver Surfer, Spectrum, etc. What a deflating feeling it is to watch your Venom go from 200+ to 3.
  • Shang-Chi because Shang-Chi.

When all else fails, destroy it.

Scarlet Witch
On Reveal: Replace this location with a new one.
Magik
On Reveal: Replace this location with 'Limbo'. Doesn't work after turn 5.
Storm
On Reveal: Flood this location. Next turn is the last turn cards can be played here.
Rhino
On Reveal: Add a Rock to your side of this location.
Legion
On Reveal: Replace each other location with this one.

  • Running either Scarlet Witch, Magik, Storm, Rhino or Legion will switch the location, therefore eliminating the ability entirely.

Featured Deck: NIMROD by Miyoji
