Reed Richards is the stretchy one, but Susan Storm has always been the glue that holds the Fantastic Four together. Sue has always needed to take on more roles than the other members including as a leader, powerful fighter, protective guardian, and emotional support all at the same time, and Vanessa Kirby’s portrayal definitely lives up to this in the new Fantastic Four: First Steps movie. While Sue’s first Snap card focused on her ability to conceal, her second card leans into her ability to support and get the best out of others.
Card Comparisons and Partners
On Reveal has Odin, Absorbing Man and Grandmaster. Ongoing has Mystique, Moonstone, and Tao Mandala. First Steps Sue is the first card that gives us a way to repeat end of turn abilities. As the above cards demonstrate, having more instances of your deck's most important cards can be incredibly powerful, though it's not always the game winner players imagine it to be before a card releases. Will Invisible Woman be closer to archetype staples like Odin and Mystique or will she enter a little flat and improve like Grandmaster and Absorbing Man? It all depends on what you're able to repeat. Here is a list of all of the repeatable end of turn abilities currently in the game (plus a few upcoming ones).
First Steps Cards
Sue 2 is going to be great at adding oodles of extra power to the board by boosting cards like Sunspot, Havok, Marvel Boy, and her fellow First Steps teammates. Giving Bruce Banner an extra chance to transform at the right moment makes him a scarier threat and I'm wondering if there are some interesting shenanigans available with Attuma. Sue can only go off once, so there is a bit of tension between abilities you'd like to repeat on the final turn to build power and ones you'd like to repeat earlier like FS Mr. Fantastic, Adam Warlock, or Thaddeus Ross.
Scosco's Day One Invisible Woman: First Steps decks
Early Havok
Having no cards over 3-Cost means we can get Havok out even earlier than decks like this are usually able to. Like most decks with Sue 2, this is susceptible to Shadow King, but even that can be overcome by activating Sue in turn 6 to get two increases each on Thena and Havok afterwards.
Highly Invovled
These days there is a lot of location change running around, so Cosmo is in here to protect Limbo as much as anything else. If you get an unbreakable Limbo, this deck is hard to beat.
Planet She-Hulk
There is a straightforward line of Moon Girl > Skip & Soak > She-Hulks here, but there are some cool dream scenarios where you can have Eson pull multiple giant cards out of nowhere while still contesting a second lane with a She-Hulk.
Full FF
I'm excited to try Marvel Boy out with the new Invisible Woman. He already spreads a lot of power around and an extra dose of his buffs can go a long way. This deck is built around power, but Bruce could be swapped out for some protection if needed.
Infinity Woman
The plan here is to make a giant Strange Supreme in one lane, protected by Cosmo, and win a second lane with our 6-Costs.
Fantastic Foes
I haven't been especially impressed with FS Thing, but Sue might be the thing the Thing needs. She also might revitalize Doom 2099 as an archetype. I expect 2099 to be one of the more common ideas with Sue 2 on release day.
Attuma Shenanigans
There might be some way to leverage Sue 2 for Phoenix Force or Knull, but my first attempt to use her with Attuma focuses on trying to pull off several extra Nimrod triggers with Sue, Kid Omega, and Attuma on board by turn 5.
Variant Gallery
I thought Vanessa Kirby was the stand out actor from the Fantastic Four: First Steps film, and we've got quite a few variants for the new card that look vaguely like the English actress.
Final Thoughts and Looking at the Future
Invisible Woman has solid stats and a novel effect. Her power level depends entirely on whether the end of turn effects in the game are strong. While we have some intriguing options, there's no end-of-turn card that seems so strong that it makes Invisible Woman a slam dunk. I do think she'll find a place in the meta because she's not especially easy to counter and there are enough different avenues to try with her that something is likely to stand out. She's also the type of card that gains relevance when future cards come out. We don't have too many end-of-turn abilities datamined so far beyond next season’s First Steps Galactus and Silver Surfer and the following season's Viv Vision, but I'm sure we'll see additional cards that Sue 2 can take advantage of in future seasons (because the datamined version of Viv Vision seems so powerful, I put a deck with her below this section). Invisible Woman: First Steps will definitely be worth the resources for people who like to deck-build and try to craft around new releases. If that's not you, wait until the end of the week to make sure she's thriving before spending your resources.
