Hellfire Gala - The Most Stylish Event of the Year!
The MarvelSnap YouTube Channel posted a Developer Update video today regarding the next season coming to Marvel Snap. The Hellfire Gala season will instruct you to find your finest garbs to attend this stylish event that starts on December 5th, 2023. Along with the new season, of course new cards are coming to the game but also some new features. If you haven't checked out the newest Developer Update video, you can find that below!
New Features
Some new features coming to Marvel Snap during the Hellfire Gala season are, deck builder, albums, and new emotes. You can see these new features during the video but here are some brief descriptions of what these features will to add to the game.
- Deck Builder: Auto-complete a deck or find the perfect fit for a brand new card. From the deck building screen in game, players will be able to build a competitive deck with one click.
- Albums: Show off a complete variant set with Albums and earn exclusive rewards such as new emotes.
- New Emotes: Brand new emotes that are earned via completing an Album. More emotes are expected in the future. During the video, you can see some of the emotes that are potentially coming into Marvel Snap.
As far as the new features, I think deck building can be a helpful tool for new players or players that don't have much exposure to content. My only fear with the deck builder is the legitimacy with it in terms of where they are getting these auto complete suggestions from and if they will update frequently or be stagnant. It will also be interesting to see how the deck builder interacts with new balance updates and changes to cards. I do enjoy the variety that will be brought with the new emotes and albums even if I am not the most frequent emote user.
Season Cards
Sebastian Shaw will be the season pass card for the Hellfire Gala season. When this card permanently gains Power, gain +2 more Power. (wherever this is). The example given in the video on where to play Sebastian Shaw was in a Silver Surfer deck with other buff cards like Forge, Nakia, and Okoye.
Selene will be a Series 5 release and might be the icing on the cake when it comes to rounding out lists that involve Annihilus. Here cards states afflict the lowest-Power card in each player's hand with -3 Power. In Annihilus mirror matches, it will be interesting to see the interactions that Selene has as well as the mind game of trying to figure out what was afflicted on the opposing side.
The brother of Cyclops will be arriving this season. Havok is Series 4 release that states after each turn, you lose 1 Max Energy and this gains +4 Power. When this card was datamined not only was it a Series 5 release, but the card gained +3 Power after each turn but it has been changed to +4 Power. The suggestion made in the video of using him in Ravonna and Mr. Negative decks is interesting. I am not sure who you would cut and where he would land in play priority given that you usually want to play Psylocke, Ravonna, or Zabu depending on the Mr. Negative list being played. The +4 Power should not be underestimated but be careful with Shadow King being so prominent in the meta.
Another Series 5 release during the Hellfire Gala is Blob. Blob's card states On Reveal: Merge your deck into this. (and gain its total Power) Ongoing: Can't be moved. Blob can end games at an insane power level but it does warrant somewhat of a strong early game to successfully win the match and not just one lane with Blob. As I eluded to with Shadow King, be careful with when and where you play Blob. It would probably be best to play Blob without priority but be careful of a purple cloud that may emerge. In the video, I did find the Darkhawk interaction interesting and a good valve for when Darkhawk becomes prominent in the meta (like right now).
