Hello fellow Snappers!

My name is Drewberry and I've been creating Marvel Snap content since BETA! I'm teaming up with Snap.fan to share some of my thoughts on the new card: LADY DEATHSTRIKE

Lady Deathstrike
On Reveal: Destroy each card here with 3 or less Power.

Lady Deathstrike looks like a very fun destruction tool, but I’m not confident that she has enough reach to make it into the meta, despite those long fingers. I love that she’s a new late-game destroy enabler while also disrupting your opponent. The best part is that she can stand up to... Dracula! Of course, Ironman, Patriot, Cerebro, etc. can also be countered, but they had existing counters already. Dracula has never been afraid, and now those discard players are going to be sweating when they match up against a destroy list.

However, her low impact in a wide variety of matchups, the fact that she often needs a lot of support, and the high cost of her low base stats is really making it difficult to see how Lady Deathstrike is a worthwhile pickup at Series 5. Here’s what else you can find in her spotlight caches this week:

Week of 8/15 - Spotlights

Lady Deathstrike
On Reveal: Destroy each card here with 3 or less Power.
M.O.D.O.K.
On Reveal: Discard your hand.
Stature
Costs 1 if your opponent discarded a card this game.

Lady Deathstrike Tips & Mechanics!

  1. She does NOT destroy unrevealed cards (be aware of who has priority!)
  2. WORKS with Cerebro & other Ongoing effects! Buff applies before her On Reveal effect.
  3. On Reveal Buffs (Shuri, Forge, etc) will apply before her On Reveal effect.
  4. Reciprocal effect! Your board will be destroyed by her as well so be careful!
  5. Destroys everything with LESS power than her. Buffing your cards may be a smart way to counter Lady Deathstrike decks.

Here are some fun theory-crafted deck lists I crafted for Lady Deathstrike:

LadyBro

YES! Cerebro-3 gets an amazing new tool with Lady Deathstrike! If we’re able to get the Cerebro-Mystique combo out before the Deathstrike turn, we’ll get her up to 7 power and eviscerate all cards at her location with 6 or less power. With the bonus of never destroying our own stuff because they should all be equal to Deathstrikes power. Mix in bast to combo with Ironman and Mystique so that everything benefits from the Cerebro buffs!

Infinity Strike

Thanos-destruction has been picking up speed, and I think it could benefit from adding Lady Deathstrike. Her ability to clear out some infinity stones, discount Death and hopefully disrupt your opponent in one fell swoop is quite powerful. Throw her down on turn 5 to setup a big Death+Thanos play on turn 6!

Lady & The Ramp

Electro seems to be a nice pair with Lady Deathstrike as we can aim to play her earlier than expected in the electro lane to remove his negative ongoing ability. Ideally we’re able to set up with Shuri then fall into a nice Arnim zola - Deathsrtike play to sweep the board. I worry there might be a lack of power but there’s a few alternatives with Ironlad and absorbing man or the classic shuri-black panther-arnim zola combo as a backup option.

Negative High-Roll

This is the list that everyone keeps talking about! Her highest potential is a 3/5 that destroys everything in its lane with 4 or less power, which seems very strong! BUT, Mr. Negative decks are always inconsistent. There’s too much that needs to align. For starters, hopefully drawing and playing Negative early. Then, we need to draw Deathstrike, hopefully Shuri, and a few other power plays. Then we need to hope there’s still time to play them and not be countered. When this deck hits, it hits BIG.

Lady Deathstrike will be released as a SERIES 5 card costing 6000 tokens! The two accompanying cards in the spotlight caches during her featured week will both be series 4, which means token-wise this is one of the weakest spotlight caches yet. My verdict is that Lady Deathstrike is a…PASS!

However she looks super fun and has a lot of potential in fan favorite decks such as negative and cerebro. If she had been a Series 4 release maybe, just maybe, I’d change my mind!

Thanks for reading!
