Location Lowdown - Genosha

Welcome to Genosha — the land of the free and the home of the brave (mutants). Once a tropical island that thrived on the back of enslaved mutants. Nowadays, thanks to Magneto’s liberation, it's a safe haven for all mutantkind. You might be curious about how many places there are to be safe havens for all mutantkind. Well, statistically they have a 100% chance of being completely destroyed after a few issues — but this time it will work out for sure I reckon.

Don’t worry too much about it though. What happens in Genosha usually gets retconned a few issues later or fixed back around by Cable time travelling all over the place. The land has everything and you're bound to find something for you— unless you’re looking for stability. So grab yourself your sunscreen, your favorite teleporter mutant, and ready the best real estate agency before your house gets demolished by rogue Sentinels.

Back to Snap

Hello fellow Snappers! This Wednesday the 28th, Genosha is about to debut on snap as its Hot Location! But what does it do?

After turn 5, all but your highest-Cost here are destroyed.

So, by the end of turn 5, the sentinels attack and defeat the highest-costed card in the location, from both sides of the field. Interesting, it is another Destroy Location but a very specific one that will require some clever plays to not lose your best card on the field. Or perhaps you’d want to have your best card destroyed? Let’s see how we can best weaponize its effect.

Lore accurate? Nimrod would be the best card when things go down in Genosha. He would be destroyed immediately by the end of turn 5, meaning that you would have two nimrods primed and ready on the board by the start of turn 6 for you to destroy how many times you can on that last turn. If you manage to play Shuri before Nimrod, your opponent might as well retreat because it will be incredibly difficult to beat your 12 powered Nimrods all over the board.

Oh no I lost my powerful card to Genosha, what am I to do? Well, just play this week’s card, Elixir. Since Genosha destroys a costly card for you without any extra effort, it's easy to use it with our golden boy. If you’re wondering about which cards to destroy. I would go with a neat White Tiger or perhaps a Doctor Doom if we have some extra energy.

Firehair is a girl that thrives on destruction. You could do something like the elixir suggestions we saw above or we could do something funny. If you manage to fill up Genosha with a ton of On Reveal cards with the same cost, they all die by turn 5, and if it so happens that Firehair is on the field, she’ll trigger all of those On Reveals. The easiest way to do that would be with the mad titan and his precious stones. Imagine playing 4 stones on genosha, blowing them up on turn 5 and triggering their effects one more time with our fiery girl.

Genosha will be a location that not many people will want to stack power into, because it will all topple over anyway. A way that we could take advantage of that behaviour is by playing with a sneaky Galactus deck. Just trust me, no one will see it coming 100% of the time. If we manage to do the Galactus play, our titular main character will be destroyed but it doesn’t matter much since he only provides 6 Power.

Last strategy that I got for you is our girl Scream. Your opponents will be screaming in frustration when their powerful turn 5 play gets shoved into genosha only to be blown to smithereens while your screams grows bigger and meaner. So ready your Cannonball!

Let me tide you over with some decks, okay?

Afterthoughts

genosha_2

Hey nice folk! Glad to see you once again. What do you think of this new location? Did Magneto cook? I actually like this one, even though it's another destructive location, I consider it to be great because there are ways to strategize for it. That’s why I made it my mission not to list any boring basic destroy decks. But what about you? Are you happy being a resident of Genosha? Any secret alleyways that we could take to avoid total annihilation? Send me your thoughts by telepathic messages or by commenting below, whatever suits you best.

As always, It was great to catch you here again and I’ll see you on the next one!
