Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

Okay I’m stumped on this one. Never heard of it before but I did some research. It's in Washington DC founded in 1910 and it has one of the vastest collections on– I’m sorry what the heck are we doing here? Why is this museum showing up on my children’s card game? No one can truly tell for now but I would bet it is a major location on “Captain America: Brave New World”, the movie that this whole season is based on. So, let’s take a short recess, visit the place, watch the movie, and then we can come back here and talk all about it.

Back to Snap

This Wednesday, the 11th, Smithsonian Museum will be the newest location and our Hot Location. Good thing that admission is free, no tickets required, because you will visit the place over and over again during the day. But what does it do

Your cards here have +1 Power for each Ongoing among them.

Okay, a bit wordy but I can work with that. All the cards visiting the museum will receive +1 power for every Ongoing card there. Quite simply, the best thing to do is shoving 4 Ongoing cards there, thus granting all of them 4 power, which amounts to a huge sum of 16 extra power. That’s bigger than a Red Hulk!

You might be wondering what would belong in a museum. Obviously the answer would be Ongoing cards and this season we have a metric ton of them that are quite powerful. Firstly, We have Sam Wilson, Captain America and his faithful shield. Not only would it be quite flavorful to play them in a location based on the movie, it would also be quite strong. You might as well do some time travel shenanigans and place Steve together in the mix.

If your strategy involves playing a bunch of cheap Ongoing cards like Mystique, Mister Fantastic, or even Ant Man. Consider Moonstone if you have access to her. She is an amazing card whenever cheap Ongoing is relevant

How about an excursion from the noble country of Latveria? Doom 2099 is a powerful card that fills your board with Ongoing cards, if you can follow through on his mission to play only a single card per turn. Since he plays so many Ongoing cards, you could perhaps use legion as your solo card on turn 5 to buff every doombot wherever they are.

If you would like to play with Tutti frutti looking options, Thanos is your guy. Half of the infinity stones are Ongoing and Cheap so you could gather them in the Museum for a fascinating exposition on how to kill half the universe

There is one last Ongoing card that I want to mention, my ugliest boy Mojo. If you and your opponent are trying really hard to fill the museum, our yellowest alien will gain a whopping 6 extra power plus whatever else bonus comes from the museum itself. Don’t sleep on him. He also works great with Jean Grey as she could force you and your opponent to play on Mojo’s location.

If you wanna be real mean and cruel, you can slot into your deck an Echo, and even an Enchantress. Those two are the bane of any Ongoing based decks and I suspect that a lot of people will base their strategy on exactly that.

Let me give you some lists that surely belong in a museum!

Afterthoughts

I don’t know how to feel about the museum. It’s an alright location but it's quite bland I’d say especially if you try to compare it to the thrilling Asgard Besieged that we had last season. The Smithsonian Museum will be a location that I’m not looking forward to visiting after the hot location since I’m not that much of a Spectrum styled deck. Although I know that a lot of people are huge fans of the archetype and will have a field day with this location. But enough about my doomposting.

What about you? Are you excited about the location? Do you have any big plans and secret decks to play on that fateful day to reach your goals? Let me know in the comments!

As always, it was a pleasure and I will catch you on the next one!
