Future Seasons Prediction

Marvel Snap is officially 1 years old. It's been a great year and we've seen beloved characters dominate the meta such as Silver Surfer and Shuri. We've seen metas dominated by characters that most barely knew anything about before snap like Aero, Leech, and Alioth. How will Second Dinner top the craziness of mechanics such as Galactus and Loki? It's been an eventful year, but what does the future hold?

In a recent datamine, some cryptic set of names were found.

Datamine

That got our writing team thinking: what could be coming up in future Marvel Snap Seasons? Here we'll go through some guesses, educated and otherwise, to try to predict what Marvel Snap has in store in 2024. We'll try to guess abilities and stats for the cards that don't have datamined details, and let you know what characters might be in line for brand new variants if any of these season themes are chosen.

Thunderbolts

Thunderbolts29

Thunderbolts coming to Marvel Snap is more of a question of when rather than if. The Thunderbolts, a team of anti-heroes, have been through many iterations in the comics, with some teams being unrelated to others. There is a Thunderbolts movie scheduled for release in December 2024 and we know Second Dinner likes to time their season themes around MCU events, if possible. However, the next Captain America installment Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled for July and seems likely to lead into Thunderbolts in many ways.

Thunderbolt Ross is confirmed to appear in Brave New World Perhaps and several of the other Thunderbolts characters first appeared in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney+ Series, so we could first be introduced to the Thunderbolts before their own movie. Perhaps we'll get a Thunderbolts themed season as early as July of 2024.

Valentina

Valentina
On Reveal: Add a random 6-Cost card to your hand. Give it -2 Cost and -2 Power.

One of the names newly datamined is Valentina, which refers to Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, an old love interest of Nick Fury. She's already appeared in the MCU as a mysterious and shady government official portrayed by Julia Louis Dreyfus. She seems to be assembling the MCU’s version of the Thunderbolts.

Ability Prediction: 4/2 On Reveal: One of your opponent's cards here switches sides.

U.S. Agent

U.S. Agent
Ongoing: 4-Cost or more cards here have -3 Power.

U.S Agent's first MCU appearance was in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The hero eventually turned bad during the series and was then recruited by Valentina at the end of the series. U.S. Agent is confirmed to appear in the Thunderbolts MCU film.

Ability Prediction: 4/4 On Reveal: Destroy all cards with no abilities here.

White Widow

White Widow
On Reveal: Add a Widow's Kiss to your opponent's side of this location.

Yelena Belova, (was also referred to as the Black Widow) is also confirmed for the Thunderbolts film and Florence Pugh will reprise the role. Yelena Belova has appeared in the Black Widow movie as well as the Hawkeye Disney+ series.

Ability Prediction: 2/3 White Widow: If one of your cards is destroyed by an on reveal effect from one of your opponent's cards, this card destroys that card as well.

Red Guardian

Red Guardian
On Reveal: Afflict the lowest-Power enemy card here with -2 Power and remove its text.

Red Guardian is another character introduced to the MCU in the 2021 Black Widow Film. He was played by David Harbour and is also confirmed for the Thunderbolts movie.

Current Datamined Ability: 3/6 On Reveal: You must play a card here next turn.

Baron Zemo

Baron Zemo
On Reveal: Recruit a card that costs the least from your opponent's deck to your side of this location.

Zemo has long been an important MCU character, but in the comics he was the leader of the original Thunderbolts. The connoisseur of turkish delights disguised himself as Citizen V and passed himself off as a hero.

Ability Prediction:

Baron Zemo: 1/-2

Citizen V: 5/9 When this card is destroyed replace it with Baron Zemo.

Bullseye

Bullseye
Activate: Discard all cards that cost 1 or less from your hand. Afflict that many different enemy cards with -2 Power.

Primarily known as one of Daredevil's greatest villains, Bullseye briefly joined the Thunderbolts during the Civil War and Secret Invasion comic book storylines. His datamined ability is very interesting. Perhaps not strong enough, but certainly an interesting consistency engine that could be abused.

Current Datamined Ability: 1/2 On Reveal: The next card you draw will be a 2-Cost card. (if any are left)

War Machine

War Machine
Ongoing: Nothing can stop you from playing cards anywhere.

This card has been datamined for a long time, though it seems certain his ability will be different once he's finally released. Rhodey might not have as direct a connection to the Thunderbolts as the other characters on this list, he's one of the most prominent unreleased characters.

Current Datamined Ability: 4/5 Ongoing: Your 1-Cost cards have +1 Power.

Season pass variant predictions:

Ghost
On Reveal: Remove the abilities from all End of Turn cards here.
Agent 13
On Reveal: Add a random card to your hand.
Taskmaster
On Reveal: Set this card’s Power equal to that of the last card you played. (if able)

Exiles

Exiles_Vol_3_1_Logo

An eXiles season seems possible simply because of the crazy amount of eXiles members that have been datamined. The eXiles are characters from different timelines that hop around the Multiverse solving problems. They're not exactly the most well-known characters so the fact that so many of them are secreted in the files points to big plans for the eXiles.

Blink

Blink
On Reveal: Swap the last card you played with a card that costs more from your deck.

The most well-known member of the eXiles and one of the more popular unreleased characters, Blink would likely be the centerpiece of any eXiles launch.

Current Datamined Ability: 3/1 You can move this each turn. When it moves, +1 Power

Nocturne

Nocturne
Moveable once. When this moves, replace its location with a random new one.

Nocturne is an alternate reality daughter of Nightcrawler and the Scarlet Witch.

Ability Prediction: 2/4 On Reveal: One of your cards here gains the ability to move once.

Namora

Namora
On Reveal: Give +5 Power to each of your cards alone at another location.

There was a Namora character that appeared in Wakanda Forever, but an alternate reality version was also a long time eXiles member.

Ability Prediction: 3/7 Ongoing: -4 power if you have another card here.

Sage

Sage
On Reveal: +2 Power for each different Power among all other cards here.

Sage is a mutant with the mind of a supercomputer.

Ability Prediction: 4/3 On Reveal: If you play your next card at this location, add a copy to another location.

Sasquatch

Sasquatch
Costs 1 less for each card you played last turn.

Sasquatch is in the files, but none of the other members of the Canadian team Alpha Flight are. An alternate reality version of Heather Hudson appeared in the eXiles as Sasquatch.

Ability Prediction: 3/4 If this card is afflicted with negative power, it gains that much power instead

Season pass variant predictions:

Morph
On Reveal: Become a copy of a card in your opponent's hand.
Psylocke
On Reveal: Next turn, you get +1 Energy.
Iron Lad
On Reveal: Copy the text of your deck's top card.

Black Order

Black_Order_Vol_1_Logo

Another group with a ridiculous amount of characters in the files is the Black Order. They appeared in the MCU as the Children of Thanos. If there's one thing Second Dinner loves, it's minor characters from the comics that also appeared in the MCU.

Black Dwarf/Cull Obsidian

Black Dwarf
Unknown
Cull Obsidian
You can only play this where you have a 1-Cost card.

Strangely both names appear in the datamines. Black Dwarf was renamed Cull Obsidian in the MCU.

Ability Prediction: 5/4 Ongoing: Afflict each of your opponent's card here with -1 power. Each adjacent location (on your side) gets that much power.

Black Swan

Black Swan
Activate: Until the end of next turn, your 1-Cost cards cost 0.

Ability Prediction: 4/5 Ongoing: Your opponent's cards cannot move to or from this location.

Corvus Glaive

Corvus Glaive
On Reveal: Discard 2 cards from your hand to get +1 Max Energy.

Ability Prediction: 5/9 If this card is destroyed, destroy all of your opponent's cards here.

Proxima Midnight

Proxima Midnight
When Discarded: This jumps to your lowest-Power location. (that isn't full)

Ability Prediction: 4/4 On Reveal: Set the power of one of your opponent's cards here to 0.

Supergiant

Supergiant
On Reveal: All cards played next turn don't reveal until the game ends.

Ability Prediction: 3/2 On Reveal: Swap this card with a card in your opponent's deck.

Season pass variant predictions:

Thanos
Game Start: Shuffle the six Infinity Stones into your deck.
Ebony Maw
You can't play this after turn 3. Ongoing: You can't play cards here.
Gamora
On Reveal: If your opponent played a card here this turn, +4 Power.

Planet Hulk

Logo-Planet-Hulk-Comics

There are so many characters that relate in some way back to the Hulk, especially the Planet Hulk comic storyline (part of which was lifted for his Thor: Ragnarok appearance) that it seems possible that we'll get a whole Hulk season.

Caiera

Caiera
Ongoing: Your 1 and 6-Cost cards can't be destroyed.

Caiera is a resident of Sakaar and Hulk's love interest in the Planet Hulk storyline.

Ability Prediction: 4/0 On Reveal: Set this card's power equal to that of the last card your opponent played. (if that card is in play)

Skaar

Skaar
Costs 2 less for each of your cards that has 10 or more Power.

Skaar is the child of Caiera and Hulk. He snuck into the MCU via a cameo at the end of the She-Hulk Disney+ show.

Ability Prediction: 3/3 Ongoing: Your 2, 4, and 6 cost cards have +1 power.

Red Hulk

Red Hulk
End of Turn: If your opponent has unspent Energy, +3 Power. (if in hand or in play)

Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross was transformed into the Red Hulk to battle the Hulk. He could appear in a Hulk based season or a Thunderbolts season.

Ability Prediction:

Red Hulk: 7/15

Evolved Red Hulk: When your opponent ends a turn with unspent Energy, reduce the cost of this by 1 (if in hand)

Grandmaster

Grandmaster

The comic book version and the MCU version of Grandmaster are quite different. In the MCU he was portrayed by Jeff Goblume in Thor: Ragnarok.

Ability Prediction: 5/6 On Reveal: After this turn, your opponent's cards here FIGHT! Destroy the weakest one(s).

Miek

Miek
When you discard a card, this gains +1 Power and Moveable next turn.

Another character from the Planet Hulk storyline, Miek is also from Sakaar. He is exactly the type of character second dinner loves to make as he's also appeared briefly in the MCU.

Ability Prediction:

Miek egg: 1/0 On Reveal: If you play another card here next turn, transform into Meik

Meik: 2/4 On Reveal: If you play another card to fill this location next turn, transform into King Miek

King Miek: 4/12

Season pass variant predictions:

Hulk
HULK SMASH!
Leader
On Reveal: Copy the enemy card(s) with the highest Power played this turn, but on your side.
Abomination
Foolish rabble! You are beneath me!

West Coast / Great Lakes Avengers

West-Coast-Avengers29

The semi-serious and unserious branches of the Avengers also have several characters hidden in the files.

Gwenpool

Gwenpool
On Reveal: Pick a random character in your hand 3 times. Give +2 Power each time.

Gwenpool is one of the most popular unreleased characters and is a good candidate for a season pass card.

Current Datamined Ability: 2/1 On Reveal: Double this card's Power.

Flatman

Flatman
Ongoing: Adjacent locations have +1 Power.

A member of the ridiculous off-brand Great Lakes Avengers, this card was datamined a while ago.

Current Datamined Ability: 2/2 Ongoing: Adjacent locations have +1 Power.

Mockingbird

Mockingbird
Costs 1 less for each of your created cards in play.

Hawkeye's ex was a founding member of the original West Coast Avengers and was a reluctant mentor to the Great Lakes Avengers.

Ability Prediction: 2/2 On Reveal: If you played a card at this location last turn, give it +3 power.

Kate Bishop

Kate Bishop is one of the few characters on this list that has not appeared in the datamines but she is far too popular to not get a card soon. She has appeared in the MCU, and has had multiple ongoing solo comic series, unlike some of the quite obscure characters that have been datamined. Her other West Coast Avengers teammate not found in the datamines, Quentin Quire, should also get a card soon.

Ability Prediction: 3/2 On Reveal: If you play a card at this location next turn destroy one of your opponents cards here.

Season pass variant predictions:

Hawkeye
On Reveal: If you play a card at this location next turn, +3 Power.
Jeff the Baby Land Shark
Moveable once. Nothing can stop you from moving or playing this to any location.
Vision
Moveable

Eternals

Eternals-Logo

There is only one member of the Eternals that has been datamined, Makkari. I'm actually surprised that no Eternals have been added to the game yet, given that they have had their own movie. Maybe they're being held back for a full Eternals season in the future?

Makkari

Makkari
End of Turn: Runs from your hand to a random location. (if possible)

Current Datamined Ability: 0/2 When you draw this, place it at a random location.

Ikaris

Ability Prediction: 5/3 On Reveal: Destroy Sersi (if in play). The next card your opponent draws, this card gains it's power.

Sersi

Ability Prediction: 2/2 Ongoing: Change your opponents hand size capability from 7 to 6.

Druig

Ability Prediction: 4/6 On Reveal: Restore this location to its original location.

Season pass variant predictions:

Kang
Game Start: Replace this with 4 Kangs with text from random cards that Cost 3 or more.
Thor
On Reveal: Shuffle Mjolnir into your deck.
Apocalypse
When Discarded: Put this back with +4 Power.

Inferno

Secret_Wars-_Inferno_29_logo

There are quite a few datamined characters that relate to the Hope Summers centric X-Men comic storylines Second Coming, Messiah Complex, and X-Infernus. A lot of the seeds for these storylines began in the much more iconic Inferno storyline so I think that is more likely to be a theme for a season. Hope also features prominently in the recent X-Men stories set on Krakoa so perhaps we'll get a Krakoa based season instead, or as well. There have also been rumors that Inferno will be a primary storyline in the upcoming X-Men '97 Disney+ show so this season could come in January or February.

Hope Summers

Hope Summers
After you play a card here, you get +1 Energy next turn.

Hope Summers is a powerful and popular character and seems like another possible season pass card. Hope was the first mutant born after Scarlet Witch decimated the mutants in the House of M storyline. She was raised by Cable. She is incredibly powerful and can mimic the abilities of other mutants, but even stronger. Iron Lad's ability would be perfect for her, but as it's already taken I think a card could look towards her role in helping to resurrect mutants in the recent House of X storyline and follow-ups.

Ability Prediction: 2/3 On Reveal: After this turn, revive one of your destroyed cards here.

Pixie

Pixie
On Reveal: Shuffle the base Costs of all cards in your deck that started there.

A central character in the X-Men Second Coming and X-Infernus storylines, Pixie flies around on Dragonfly wings and produces hallucinogenic pixie dust.

Ability Prediction: 2/3 Ongoing: Cards you play here are disguised as random cards without abilities until the end of the game.

Witchfire

witchfire

Witchfire is the daughter of Belasco, the same evil sorcerer who kidnapped Illyana Rasputin to Limbo where she later overthrew him and became Magik. Hey, maybe we should get a Belasco card before a Witchfire card? Witchfire also featured in the X-Infernus storyline.

Current Datamined Ability: 2/3 On Reveal: Your opponent draws a card, increase its cost by 1.

Stryfe

Stryfe
Objective: Play 3 On Reveal cards Use the highest-Cost On Reveal in your hand. (0/3)

Stryfe is Cable's clone who is always hassling the X-Men and Hope.

Current Datamined ability: 3/7 If your opponent has 12+ Power here at the end of any turn, destroy this.

Goblin Queen

Goblin Queen
On Reveal: Other cards can't be revealed this turn.

The Goblin Queen is Madelyn Pryor. Maddie is a clone of Jean Grey (made by Mr. Sinister) and the mother of Cable. Demons from Limbo corrupted her mind after she found out she was simply a clone. She was the primary villain in the original Inferno storyline.

Current Datamined Ability: 2/3 On Reveal: Other cards can't be revealed this turn.

Mephisto

Mephisto
If you win this game, double your winnings.

Mephisto isn't related to the Inferno storyline but he kinda fits the hellish theme and will be a hotly anticipated card, assuming he retains his datamined ability.

Current Datamined Ability: 6/0 If you win this game, double your winnings.

Dormammu

Dormammu is one of the more major villains that has yet to appear in the datamines. Maybe they'll make a Dormammu card for inclusion in a hellish season.

Ability Prediction: 6/4 Ongoing: Whenever one of your opponent's cards moves, this follows it and destroys it.

Season pass variant predictions:

Mister Sinister
On Reveal: Add a Sinister Clone here with the same Power.
Magik
On Reveal: Replace this location with 'Limbo'. Doesn't work after turn 5.
Cyclops
Let's move, X-Men.

There could also be seasons centered around other upcoming MCU projects that just don't have currently datamined cards. What if…? season 2 should be out around Christmas. If you watched season 1 you'll know that it was heavily used for inspiration for Marvel Snap characters and locations. Echo will be out in January. A Madame Web movie starring Dakota Johnson is currently slated for February 14. Deadpool 2 is scheduled for May.

2024 is definitely going to be an exciting year for Snap. We'll get plenty of new cards that aren't even on our radars yet and the game will go in unimagined directions. What types of abilities would you like to see added to the game? What characters are you most anticipating? Let us know in the comments!
