Snap Packs launch today!
Marvel Snap's long-awaited acquisition system changes are finally here! The headline is Snap Packs, but an increase in Tokens to buy cards directly is also an important aspect of this new system. The Spotlight Key system is being retired. We'll break down everything that's coming today and share some tips to get the most out of the system.
To celebrate the launch of Snap Packs, they're giving everyone a free Series 5 Collector’s Pack! (via your inbox, date TBA)

More New Series 4 Cards
We will also be getting more series 4 cards each month! The team said they are aiming for a whopping 4-5 new cards per season! Some of these will likely be released in batches at the beginning of the season, but there will still be series 4 cards to earn from limited time game modes.
The Odds
The team also revealed the detailed drop tables for all of the new packs. Check out the official blog for the full tables, but here are some highlights, mostly from the Seasonal Series 5 pack. Bear in mind that each pack contains one guaranteed new card and two rolls for additional goodies.
- Odds for Mystery and Premium Mystery Borders and Variants at about 1.3% (varies slightly depending on how complete your collection is), which means you'll get at least one border or variant in about 1 in 10 Seasonal Series 5 packs.
- God pack (a Seasonal Series 5 pack with three new cards) odds are 1 in 164 (for players who aren't yet series 3 complete)
- Heavy pack (2 new cards in a Seasonal Series 5 pack) odds are about 1 in 7 (again, for players who aren't yet series 3 complete)
- Approximately a 40% chance to hit boosters, which means the odds of getting a Seasonal Series 5 pack without any boosters in it is about 36%
- There's a 1 in 173,611 chance to pull two new series 5 cards from a Series 3 Collector's pack. There's a chance!
Fallback rewards
The fallback rewards are quite generous, essentially giving a full free pack if you hit a reward when you're already complete for that card series.
If you are Series 3, 4, or 5 complete and hit that reward in a pack you'll get:
- Series 3 - 850 Tokens
- Series 4 - 2,500 Tokens
- Series 5 - 5,000 Tokens
A Big Change for Acquiring Variants
One of the most pleasant surprises is the announcement that whenever you acquire a Variant for which you do not own the base card, you will be
granted the base card for free along with it! This will be retroactive. However, this change will arrive in a future patch, timing TBD.
What’s happening to Spotlight Variants?
Spotlight Variants are moving to the “Offers” section of the Shop, but details (such as pricing and what to do with older Spotlight Variants) are still being worked out.
Final Thoughts
The additional odds tables add a lot to our understanding of this new system. While it's sad to see so many boosters, they're likely there to allow the surprisingly high odds to get additional unowned cards from the packs. Remember, Snap Packs are fun, but you don't need to rely on them. I think that spending 6000 tokens to directly purchase the new cards that you're most interested in, while curating and trimming your other pools of cards with strategic opening and waiting is the ideal way to engage with this new system for anyone who isn't at or near Series 5 completion.
