Marvel Snap’s Most Wanted January Update + Character Spotlight

January continues to roll along, and the votes continue to roll in. I’m here today with a quick update on what the Most Wanted poll looks like at the halfway point, as well as a character spotlight on a green reptilian beast. No, not Fin Fang Foom - Alligator Loki!

For anyone just looking for the link to vote in the Most Wanted poll, you can find it right here!

Most Wanted Update

It looks like Gargantos might just be here to stay! I thought that adding in Shuma-Gorath to his name would certainly boost his popularity, but I didn’t realize it would be to this extent. Gargantos is holding on at the top, but creeping up right behind him is our old friend Mephisto. Back after his banishment from the top seed, is there enough juice to get him back to number one over the next few weeks?

Two new names also currently appear in the Top 20 - Blackheart, Mephisto’s son, and Crimson Dynamo. With there being some whisperings of a potential Iron Man season in the not too distant future - do we think his rogues gallery has a chance at filling out the season. I would love to see characters like Crimson Dynamo enter the game, along with Iron Monger, Whiplash, and of course - The Mandarin. He’s another character who I would be curious how they name the card. Do they go with the classic Mandarin name, or perhaps use Xu Wenwu, showing some influence from the MCU? I wouldn’t be surprised if both names and depictions end up on the card. (Also - how do we feel about a Trevor Slattery card? The upcoming Wonder Man show will mark his third appearance in the MCU, and Second Dinner isn’t afraid to create cards based off MCU creations. Look at Topaz.)

My call for action regarding Dogpool also seems to have activated voters, as Dogpool has moved up quite a few spots since last week. Moving down towards the bottom (and certainly at risk of leaving) is the new addition, Ken the Septapus. Scosco’s choice of Ken was a bold move for our Character Prediction Draft. A new, fun character, with potential for wide popularity and a big marketing push. Being low on the list does not reflect the actual odds of a character entering the game, so even if Ken doesn’t survive long, He’s still has a good shot to make it into the game eventually.

Character Prediction League

No big update here, just a friendly reminder that you can still enter the Character Prediction League. All you have to do is guess five characters that you think will enter Marvel Snap before the end of 2026. (No datamined characters!)

You can enter here, and I’ll be keeping everyone up to date with a leaderboard beginning in the April season!

Character Spotlight: Alligator Loki

In continuing to honor the tradition of monstrous characters for Dragon season, I figured I would take a look at a newer, less popular scaly green character. (And another MCU original!) Alligator Loki made his debut in the Loki TV show in June of 2021, and then made his comic debut a few months later in 2022. Astute readers might recall that there already exists an Alligator Loki card. It is a variant of Loki, but it remains unreleased. I wouldn’t be surprised if this isn’t a Zombie Scarlet Witch situation, who existed as a variant for months, before finally becoming her own card.

On Reveal: Replace your deck with your opponent's starting deck. Give those cards -1 Cost.

There isn’t too much to say about Alligator Loki and his adventures. His primary appearances have been in his own Infinity Comic run, which ran for 48 issues on the Marvel Unlimited app. He’s also had a few background cameos in other comics, but has yet to take on any other starring roles.

Instead of discussing Alligator Loki’s specific adventures, for this case it would be more fun to discuss his personality. Like Loki, Alligator Loki is a trickster, but unlike Loki, his pranks are less malicious and more out of a desire to be liked and have fun. Alligator Loki enjoys going on adventures with Thor (who carries him in a baby björn,) he has an army of butterflies that will fight on his behalf, he loves cookies, and he hates Throg.

In one of his longer adventures, he runs away with Gabby Kinney after the two both feel like they aren’t treated fairly by their families. They cause harmless chaos around New York City, before together returning to their loved ones. (Speaking of Gabby, I currently have her on the Most Wanted list as Honey Badger - is it time to change it to Scout or should I put both names?)

Alligator Loki also attends pet day care, along with a number of other Pet Avengers. The Pet Avengers frequently cameo in his comic, and I hope that eventually we see an entire season with all our missing animal friends.

Alligator Loki in Marvel Snap

The most important thing to capture about Alligator Loki in Marvel Snap is his trickster personality, and unpredictability. When I designed this card I also wanted to include a little bit of other Pet Avengers, as well as Loki’s transform mechanic.

Alligator Loki - 2/1 - You can move this once. When this card moves, transform the lowest card on both sides into a random one costing 1 more.

CustomCard-Alligator_Loki

Alligator Loki is a fun and unpredictable card that would fit in nicely with the current meta. There are a lot of low cost cards all over the board due to Shou Lao’s popularity, and cards like Angela and Elsa want you to fill lanes and then empty them out. You can also use Alligator Loki’s transform mechanic to disrupt the opponent’s plans - but you have to be careful to not give them something even better!

Here’s a deck that could work for Alligator Loki:

Alligator Loki Most Wanted

This isn’t too dissimilar from a lot of what the meta looks like right now, but Alligator Loki as an agent of chaos provides for some nice disruption and flexibility.

Conclusion

That’s all for this week’s update You still have about two weeks left to vote, so make it count! Tell the world who you think should be in Marvel Snap.
