Hello fellow Snappers!

My name is Drewberry and I've been creating Marvel Snap content since BETA! I'm teaming up with Snap.fan to share some of my thoughts on the new card: MIRAGE

Mirage
On Reveal: Copy the character that costs the least from your opponent's hand into your hand. Give it +2 Power.

Mirage seems to be the best bang for your buck this month! Steals information from your opponent's hand, adds a card to your hand, buffs that are low cost-easy to play card for bonus value, AND has a dozen synergies with existing top meta decks. I firmly believe Mirage will find a home in many decks without needing to create her own archetype or new form of competitive list. Which is why I’m so excited! Gives me Jeff vibes. Slots into many lists, a strong play but not a deckbuilding focused card. Just GREAT value 2-drops.

Spotlight Cache Rewards this Week!

Week of 8/1 - Spotlights

Mirage
On Reveal: Copy the character that costs the least from your opponent's hand into your hand. Give it +2 Power.
Thanos
Game Start: Shuffle the six Infinity Stones into your deck.
Master Mold
On Reveal: Add 2 Sentinel to your opponent's hand.

There’s been a lot of talk surrounding POWER CREEP! Does it exist in Snap? Is this the first true instance of a direct power creep? It’s an interesting topic. Mirage does overlap with a lot of synergies that Maria Hill & Cable provide but she adds additional value with her +2 Power buff. Making it increasingly more difficult to warrant putting cable or Maria Hill in your decks over Mirage. That said, there are still some differences. Cable removes that option from your opponent which could steal games! Maria Hill is more reliable in the sense that you’ll always get a low cost card that’s likely playable later on. What do you think about Power Creep in Snap?!

A few things to clear up about the mechanics of Mirage:

  1. If there's a tie for the lowest cost card in your opponent's hand, it will be randomly chosen between them.
  2. Could still copy a 6 cost if that's their lowest cost card.
  3. NOT an Increase to Base Power, just a Power Buff. (Shadow King can counter!)
  4. Can Copy Discounted cards!! (Death, Wave)

Here are some theory-crafted builds that I believe could work with Mirage:

Mirage Bounce

A minor twist on classic bounce lists that are heavily underrated post nerfs! Kitty Pryde is still a great value generator when paired with Angela/Collector/Bishop and Hit-Monkey still provides a big powerplay on turn 6, especially with sera on the board! Mirage adds options to our hand while adding more power to our 3 engines (Angela/Collector/Bishop).

Mirage Info Station

This list will aim at providing us with as much information as possible! Mirage tells us what their lowest cost card is while also buffing up our devil dino if we can’t end up playing her generated card. Spider-Ham & White Queen will let us know their highest cost, kang will reveal one of their turns and Howard will let us know what we’re drawing! INFO INFO INFO! Spider-ham could be replaced for Zabu and Kang could be swapped for Moon Girl for a more power focused build.

Mirage Wongoing

This list is my most ambitious but I believe we have enough cheap ongoing cards now that will help bring back this retro list. The objective is to play Wong into the spectrum to buff our ongoing cards. Blue Marvel serves as a nice backup in case our Wong lane gets Cosmo’d and Jean Grey helps distract our opponents counters. Mirage might not directly synergize BUT in combo with Quinjet it will help get out quite a bit of power, or we could look at stacking her effect with Wong to setup a bigger turn 5 / 6.

Mirage will be released as a SERIES 4 card (3000 tokens)! It will be available in spotlight caches from August 1-7, alongside spotlight variants for Thanos & Master Mold.

In conclusion, Mirage seems to be a high value card that will find itself added to many decks as a cheap, nice curve play. I anticipate her being very helpful in conquest and with being a Series 4 release…

This is a SNAP! Pick up Mirage with collectors tokens if you’ve got some banked up and use spotlight caches if you’re missing Thanos / Master Mold.

Thanks for reading!
