After surviving a car crash that killed her parents at the hands of Thanos, Heather Douglas was taken to Titan and raised by monks determined to forge the perfect human being. They succeeded in giving her a mind of incredible discipline and power, but they also nurtured an overwhelming sense of superiority. As Moondragon, she is one of the most formidable telepaths in existence. Her most significant threat is not an external enemy but the Dragon of the Moon, a psychic reflection of her own pride and ambition that forever tempts her towards becoming what she hates. Whether fighting alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy or the Avengers, she is almost always the most intelligent and dangerous person in the room, and she has never felt the need to pretend otherwise.

Moondragon
End of Turn: +2 Power if you played 1 card this turn and spent all your Energy.

Moondragon is an addition to our 2-Cost scalers, with a condition of having to play 1 card per turn. This might seem like a big ask, but there are a couple of decks that naturally do this and are plenty playable.

Synergies

Most of Moondragon’s synergies are involved in the style of play rather than how they interact directly with her.

Doctor Doom 2099
End of Turn: Add a DoomBot 2099 to a random location if you played (exactly) 1 card.
Doctor Doom
On Reveal: Add a 5-Power DoomBot to each other location.

These are the most considerable synergies for Moondragon. All three have the same play style.

Sandman
On Reveal: Next turn, cards cost 1 more. (maximum 6)

Seeing as Moondragon already tasks us with playing one card per turn, Sandman is a natural fit.

Aurora
On Reveal: Give one of your other On Reveal cards at each location +2 Power. Repeat for Ongoing, Activate, and End of Turn.
Ultron
On Reveal: Deploy four 2-Power Drones to each other location.

Although not as strong synergies as the others, Moondragon serves as a cheap end-of-turn card for Aurora, which there aren’t many of, and Ultron has previously been a good finisher for decks looking to play 1 card per turn.

Counters

Several cards interact with Moondragon, which could be concerning. The main cards threatening Moondragon have to be Deafening Chord and Cosmic Ghost Rider, as they are prominent in the meta. An early Moondragon is highly susceptible to an early Deafening Chord. Although Cosmic Ghost Rider is 5-Cost, the ramp deck he is currently popular in could see him in play as early as turn 4, which could disrupt your game plan.

Red Guardian
On Reveal: Afflict the lowest-Power enemy card here with -2 Power and remove its text.
Deafening Chord
On Reveal: Remove the text of a 3-Cost or lower enemy character here.
Cosmic Ghost Rider
On Reveal: Remove the text from front-row enemy cards here.
Shadow King
On Reveal: Reset all cards here to their original Power.
Ghost
On Reveal: Remove the abilities from all End of Turn cards here.

Day 1 Decks

Patriot Moondragon

Loading...

Patriot Ultron has consistently been one of the best decks for lower CL players, and Moondragon seems like a natural fit.

Doom2099 Moondragon

Loading...

Doom 2099 has recently gotten a buff, and I believe it’s meant to push people to try this style of deck.

Tempo Aurora

Loading...

It’s been a while since Tempo Decks have been playable. This list makes use of a combination of cards that don’t see a ton of play, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be good.

Ramp Moondragon

Loading...

Moondragon is serving the same role here as Chamber does, a Turn 2 play for ramp that provides a lot of points since ramp already naturally fulfills her condition. I’m unsure if she’s an actual upgrade here, but I think it’s worth testing.

Variants

Upcoming Synergies

Drax, Avatar Of Life
End of Turn: +3 Power if your opponent played a card with greater Power this turn. Move to that card if you'd be winning its location.
Caliban Horseman of Pestilence
Objective: Have 3 cards that are 4-Cost or more in play Afflict the highest-Cost enemy card with -7 Power. (0/3)

Both these cards look like reasonable additions to Moondragon decks. Drax provides a way to contest multiple lanes, which decks that play 1 card per turn struggle with, while Caliban naturally goes off if played on Turn 3, since Moondragon decks want to play a 4+ Cost card from Turn 4 through Turn 6.

Final Thoughts

Moondragon is a narrow card that feels like a slight upgrade to a few decks that don’t see much play. I’d give her 2.5 stars out of 5. A minor upgrade to underpowered decks doesn’t suggest picking her up unless you really enjoy those playstyles. Let me know what you’ll be rating her out of 5 and what synergies I might have missed.
