I recently had the opportunity to be a guest on the Snap Academy YouTube Channel. A channel run by a top ladder player and Marvel Snap Content Creator Smlz. In that video, we covered all the current Series 4 cards and ranked them. If you want to see our opinions on which Series 4 cards are relevant in today’s Snap climate, I highly suggest checking it out!
Cards found in Series 4 overall tend to be a more mediocre set of cards. There seems to be a new effort to release Series 4 cards with more impact, such as Marrow, Majestic Wingbeat, and Fastball Special. Barring some outliers, cards released directly into Series 4 Seasonal packs tend to be on the stronger side, whereas cards released via game modes, such as Wade Wilson and Dragon Lord, are not. Essentially, you get what you pay for. Series 4 cards are cheaper than Series 5 but, on average, have less of an impact card for card.
TOP 5 Series 4 Cards We’d Buff!
I asked Smlz for 5 cards he’d want to buff from Series 4. Cards that are currently underused but with a slight adjustment could jump up a couple of tiers. Let’s dive into the possibilities!
Fantasticar to 4/7
We touched on this one briefly in the video. The End of Turn decks were largely an issue off the backs of Invisible Woman First Steps and Prodigy. Fantasticar was nerfed to lower the overall power of the deck, but that can probably be reverted now that IWFS received a nerf herself.
Hydro-Man to 5/9
Hydro-Man’s niche as a Ramp support card isn’t working out. The buff to War Machine has made Ebony Maw better, meaning you don’t need Hydro-Man to supply you with a 1 Cost to play alongside your 6 on the final turn. By giving Hydro-Man more power, he might have a fighting chance to be included.
Sebastian Shaw to a 3/2 that gains +3
Shaw used to be the large unit for Silver Surfer decks. Captain Carter or Brood has since filled that role. By increasing the gain Shaw gets, it helps him keep pace with all the new Power buffing cards in modern-day Surfer, such as Maverick.
Super Adaptoid to 2/2
We’re currently in a meta game that Shou-Lao is dominating, and part of Shou-Lao’s dominance is Activate cards like Maverick and Scarlet-Spider. In times like this, we want the tech card to be cheaper so it is less demanding on you to play and include it. It’s not about Super-Adaptoid stealing the activate for us to use it ourselves, but mainly to prevent your opponent from having access to it.
Toxie Doxie to 2/2 On Reveal: Give the leftmost character in your hand +3 Power. You can’t play it next turn if it costs 2 or less.
This is undoubtedly the most radical change of all the listed cards. It retains the current Toxie Doxie’s timing restriction but moves it into a more specific subset of cards. We’re seeing a growing archetype of caring about the “leftmost” card in your hand; perhaps something like this could be a good change for Toxie.
