UNLEASH the DRAGONS! NEW Year, NEW Variants!

Welcome to the first Variant Forecast of 2026! We’ve listened to your feedback, and this year we’re introducing a brand-new Rating System to help you decide where to drop those hard-earned credits and tokens. The Rating System is “1”, being the lowest, and “5” being the highest.

The January Dragon Season is officially here, and the art is absolutely legendary. From radioactive kaijus to cosmic sorcerers, we have a stacked lineup to kick off the new year.

Let’s dive into the reviews and see which variants earned our first "MUST get" ratings!

01/06

Lockheed: The Rianbow Connection!

Artist: Rian Gonzales

Source: Super Rare

Rating: 2/5

We are kicking off the Dragon Season with the cutest purple dragon in the galaxy! This Lockheed variant from Rian Gonzales is pure joy in card form. Rian has this incredible talent for making everything look like a candy-coated dream, and Lockheed fits her "Rianbow" style perfectly.

I love the star in his eye and the little Kitty Pryde he’s clutching like a plushie! The rainbow stretching across the sky behind him adds so much energy and color to the card. Lockheed is a brand new Season Pass card, released for January 6th, and while his affliction ability is no joke, his art is all smiles.

The Perfect Split: A Rainbow Krackle is the only correct answer here. It would match the background perfectly and make the entire card feel like a celebration of color. If you want to frame it up, a Purple Neon Border would tie in his scales and the "Lockheed" logo beautifully.

Lockheed: Into the Dragon's Den

Artist: Joshua Raphael

Source: Conditional Bundle

Rating: 3/5

If the Rian Gonzales version is too "sunshine and rainbows" for your taste, Joshua Raphael has entered the chat with something much more menacing. This variant completely shifts the vibe, showing Lockheed as a powerful, shadowy dragon in what looks like a dark dungeon or temple.

The lighting here is fantastic, with that eerie purple glow highlighting his scales and the chains around his neck. It is a much more "serious" take on the character that really leans into his fantasy roots.

The Perfect Split: If you are feeling fancy, a Purple Kirby Krackle would match the mystical energy swirling in the background perfectly.

Dragon of the Moon: Cosmic Majesty

Artist: Joshua Raphael

Source: Super Premium Instant

Rating: 4/5

Speaking of Joshua Raphael, he is pulling double duty this week with this absolute unit of a card: Dragon of the Moon! This one is coming to us via the Super Premium Instant reward bundle, which is a new tier of web-exclusive goodies for the serious collectors among us.

The scale on this variant is just massive. You have this dark, celestial dragon wreathed in purple cosmic energy, spiraling through a nebula. The way the glowing purple segments of its body contrast with the deep, dark wings is peak "Final Boss" aesthetic.

The Perfect Split: You have to go with the Cosmic Pink Border that comes in the bundle. It was practically made for this nebula background. If you want to get really wild with the splits, an Ink Finish with a Purple Flarewould make the dragon look like a ghostly constellation drifting through the void.

Dragon of the Moon: Rian’s Adorable Masterpiece

Artist: Rian Gonzales

Source: Super Rare

Rating: 3/5

If you haven’t fallen in love with Rian Gonzales’ art yet, I honestly don’t know what to tell you. This Dragon of the Moon variant is pure, unadulterated joy in card form. We usually see Moondragon looking all serious and cosmic, but Rian has turned the intensity down and the "aww" factor up to eleven.

Let’s talk about that dragon. It’s big, it’s derpy, and it looks like it just found out it’s getting extra treats for dinner. The little tongue sticking out is a stroke of genius that adds so much personality to the card. Then you have the tiny Moondragon in the front, looking peaceful and focused while surrounded by that vibrant pink energy glow. The contrast between her calm meditation and the dragon’s goofy energy is just perfection.

The background is a classic Rian Gonzales dreamscape, filled with rainbows, planets, and those signature bright colors that make her work pop off the screen. It’s a busy card, but in the best way possible. It feels like a celebration of the character rather than just another variant.

The Perfect Split: You have to go with a Rainbow Kirby Krackle. Can you imagine? The rainbows in the art would basically bleed into the animation, making the whole card look like a cosmic party. If you want to keep it more focused on the character, a Pink Neon Border would match the energy around Moondragon and tie the whole piece together beautifully.

Makkari: Fast and Furious!

Artist: Creative House Pocket

Source: Token Shop

Rating: 5/5

If you thought you were fast, Makkari is here to remind you that you’re basically standing still. This new variant from Creative House Pocket is a total masterclass in capturing momentum. The first thing that hits you is that intense, focused gaze. She isn’t just running; she is hunting for that perfect lane to snatch a victory.

The armor design here is sleek and modern, with those glowing gold accents that really make the deep red suit pop against the background. Speaking of the background, I love the way the energy crackles around her. You’ve got these bolts of yellow and blue electricity that give the card a sense of raw, vibrating power. It feels like she’s about to vibrate right out of the frame and onto your game board.

The Perfect Split: If you want to go full "speed force" mode, a Gold Krackle would make the sand and energy in the background look like a shimmering blur of cosmic power.

Psylocke: Telepathic Perfection

Artist: Artgerm

Source: Token Shop

Rating: 5/5

We are looking at a stunning rendition of Psylocke from the legendary Stanley "Artgerm" Lau. This variant has been a highly anticipated addition to the collection, and seeing it in the game is a real treat. Artgerm is known for his breathtaking, realistic portrait style, and he has absolutely delivered here.

The focus is squarely on Betsy Braddock, captured with an expression that is both serene and deadly. The signature purple hair flows beautifully out of the frame, giving the card that sense of depth we love to see. The real star of the show, though, is the psychic knife crackling around her fist. The neon pink and purple energy effects are intense and look like they are ready to jump right off the card.

The Perfect Split: To really make this card shine, I recommend a Purple Neon Border. It ties in perfectly with her hair and the psychic energy of her blade, making the entire design feel cohesive. If you managed to snag an Ink Finish, it would turn this into a gritty, classic comic panel that highlights Artgerm's incredible linework.

Giganto: The Beast from Below!

Artist: Maria Wolf

Source: Token Shop

Rating: 3/5

Next, we’re going from elegant telepaths to a giant monster that looks like it just stepped out of a fever dream. Maria Wolf’s style is absolutely wild, and I am here for it! This Giganto variant is gritty, detailed, and feels like it’s vibrating with pure, unadulterated rage.

Look at the texture on the skin and those massive, clawed hands breaking the frame. The color palette is fantastic, using those sickly yellows and swampy greens to make Giganto look like a true force of nature.

The Perfect Split: An Ink Finish would look phenomenal here, turning the variant into a gritty, black-and-white horror comic panel. If you want to keep the color, a Green Krackle split would make the energy around him look volatile and sickly, amplifying the power of this absolute unit.

Stegron: The Kaiju King of the Savage Land!

Artist: Joshua Raphael

Source: Season Pass

Rating: 4/5

The sheer scale of this art is what really hits you. Stegron is hulking over the landscape, mouth open in a roar that you can practically hear through the screen. The glowing green energy surging through his chest and scales adds a supernatural, radioactive vibe that fits the "Kaiju" theme perfectly. It’s aggressive, it’s primal, and it’s a total vibe for anyone who wants to bring some Savage Land energy to their deck.

The Perfect Split: A Green Neon Border is the only way to go. It would highlight that radioactive glow on his chest and make the scales pop like they’re actually humming with energy. If you really want to lean into the prehistoric chaos, a Gold Finish with a Gold Krackle would make the entire scene look like a volcanic eruption, turning Stegron into a golden god of destruction.

Sauron: The Dragon of the Savage Land!

Artist: Joshua Raphael

Source: Season Pass

Rating: 4/5

If you thought Stegron was the only one bringing the heat this week, Joshua Raphael said, "Hold my dinosaur DNA." This Sauron variant is an absolute masterclass in fantasy art, taking Karl Lykos from a winged pterodactyl man to a full-blown armored dragon. It is aggressive, sharp, and honestly a bit terrifying to look at, which is precisely how you want your opponent to feel.

The composition here is incredible. Sauron is diving through a misty, mountainous landscape, his wings spread wide and those talons ready to snatch up whatever is standing in his way. The green energy licking off his head and wings gives him a ghostly, supernatural edge that makes the "Kaiju" theme of this Season Pass feel truly epic.

The Perfect Split: A Green Cosmic Border is the obvious choice to match the flames on his head and his scaly hide. However, if you really want to make this look like a legendary beast, go for a Gold Finish with a Green Krackle. It will make Sauron look like he's flying through a sunlit mountain pass while wreathed in toxic energy.

The Pet Avengers: Rian Gonzales Brings the Party!

Artist: Rian Gonzales

Source: Super Rare

Rating: 3/5

If you’ve been looking for another reason to smile today, Rian Gonzales just handed it to you on a silver platter! This "Majestic Wingbeat" variant is quite literally a party in a card frame, featuring some of the most adorable faces in the Marvel Universe. It’s bright, it’s chaotic, and it perfectly captures that signature Rian style that makes every variant feel like a collectible sticker come to life.

Can we take a second to appreciate Jeff the Baby Land Shark in the center? Those watery, pleading eyes are enough to make any opponent forfeit out of pure guilt. Surrounding him, we have a pizza-eating Lucky the Pizza Dog, a very determined-looking Tippy-Toe, and even a tiny, purple Lockjaw soaring through the air. The wind swirls, and colorful kites in the background tie the whole "day at the park" vibe together beautifully.

This Rian Gonzales variant is a card and mood lifter. Rian’s use of soft pastels mixed with vibrant pops of color ensures this variant will stand out in any deck, no matter how many dark and gritty cards you have surrounding it.

The Perfect Split: You absolutely have to go with a Rainbow Kirby Krackle. The way the colorful energy would play off the kites and the overall bright palette of the art would be nothing short of phenomenal. If you want to keep it more grounded, a Blue Neon Border would do wonders for Jeff and the swirling wind effects, making the whole scene feel even more dynamic.

Agamotto: The Sorcerer Supreme’s Prime!

Artist: Creative House Pocket

Source: Super Rare

Rating: 5/5

If you’ve been looking for a variant that screams "cosmic authority," Creative House Pocket just dropped the definitive Agamotto. Forget the dusty relics; this variant shows the first Sorcerer Supreme in his absolute prime, looking ripped and ready to rewrite the laws of magic itself.

Agamotto is wreathed in glowing green mystical runes, and those three Eyes of Agamotto floating around him aren't just for show; they give the card a massive sense of scale and multidimensional power. The way his red cloak billows out behind him creates a dark, moody contrast that makes the neon magic effects pop like crazy.

The Perfect Split: You should lean into the mysticism. A Green Neon Border is the top-tier choice here, as it would perfectly frame the runes on his arms and the glow of the floating eyes. If you really want to go for a "Master of the Mystic Arts" look, an Ink Finish with a Green Kirby Krackle would make Agamotto look like a legendary figure stepping out of an ancient, enchanted scroll.

Zombie Galacti: The Hunger That Consumes Your Collection!

Artist: Mooncolony

Source: Promo - Jan '25 Milestone 12

Rating: 2/5

If you’ve been saving your web shop points, the wait is officially over! This Mooncolony variant for Zombie Galacti is the absolute pinnacle of "creepy but cool," turning the Devourer of Worlds into a rotting nightmare that brings a few friends along for the ride. This Zombie Galacti variant depicts a full-scale infestation.

The art is a massive achievement, managing to squeeze an entire undead buffet onto a single card. You’ve got a zombified Wolverine leading the charge, looking absolutely savage with those exposed teeth and glazed-over eyes. Behind him, a decaying Iron Man and a hulking, green-tinted Hulk remind you that no hero is safe from the hunger. The cool, blue background mist creates a chilling atmosphere that makes the vibrant pinks and reds of the characters pop with unsettling energy.

The Perfect Split: You have to go with a Red Neon Border. It will match the "Zombie Galacti" logo and the blood-red tones of the suits perfectly. If you really want to lean into the horror vibe, an Ink Finish with a Black Kirby Krackle would make this look like a terrifying page pulled straight from a classic Marvel Zombies comic.

A Majestic Wingbeat: Joshua Raphael’s Dragon Masterpiece

Artist: Joshua Raphael

Source: Conditional Bundle

Rating: 2/5

The dragon itself is a work of art, with its golden scales catching the dying light and those massive, leathery wings spanning the entire frame. The way the red and orange hues of the sunset reflect off its underbelly creates this warm, cinematic glow that is a chef’s kiss. It doesn't even feel like a card anymore; it feels like a frame from a big-budget fantasy epic.

The Perfect Split: A Gold Cosmic Border is the only correct answer. It would perfectly complement the golden scales and the sunset background, making the entire card look forged in the heart of a volcano. If you want something a bit more mystical, a Red Kirby Krackle would make the dragon look like it’s trailing embers across the sky as it flies.

Shou-Lao: The Undying Cutest Dragon!

Artist: Rian Gonzales

Source: Super Rare

Rating: 4/5

If you thought Shou-Lao was just a terrifying dragon Danny Rand had to punch in the chest to get some glowing hands, Rian Gonzales is here to remind you that even mystical defenders of K'un-L'un can be adorable!

Look at those giant, sparkly eyes! Shou-Lao is literally hugging a tiny, panicked-looking Iron Fist, and it is easily the most hilarious depiction of their relationship we’ve ever seen. The background is classic Rian: vibrant watercolour-style clouds and a serene mountain pagoda that make the whole scene look like it belongs in a high-end storybook rather than a card game.

The Perfect Split: You absolutely have to go with a Rainbow Kirby Krackle. The colorful sparks will perfectly match Shou-Lao’s rainbow-tinted mane and the whimsical vibe of Rian's art. If you want to lean into the mystical fire, a Red Neon Border would make the dragon's scales pop and highlight that fiery sunset hair.

Man-Thing: The Swamp Guardian Rising!

Artist: Alberto Dal Lago

Source: Promo - Battle Pass Premium Basic Jan 2025

Rating: 4/5

Alberto Dal Lago has delivered a version of Theodore Sallis that is pure, mossy intimidation, perfectly capturing the guardian of the Nexus in all his amorphous glory.

The art is incredibly atmospheric, with Man-Thing’s massive, textured form looming out of the misty swamp. Those glowing red eyes are a classic touch, signaling that he’s sensed some fear and is about to do something about it. The way his body seems to blend into the tangled greenery of the background makes him look less like a monster and more like the swamp itself decided to

The Perfect Split: You have to go with a Green Neon Border. It will perfectly frame his swampy physique and make those subtle green highlights in the moss pop. If you really want to lean into the "horror from the deep" aesthetic, an Ink Finish with a Green Kirby Krackle would make him look like a legendary creature from a vintage monster movie poster.

Shou-Lao: The Fire-Breathing King of the Savage Land!

Artist: Joshua Raphael

Source: Season Pass - Dragons

Rating: 5/5

This "Fantasy" variant is an absolute powerhouse, trading the playful watercolors for high-stakes, cinematic action. It captures the moment Shou-Lao unleashes his namesake, the Dragon Breath, in a terrifying display of mystic fire.

The detail Joshua Raphael brings to this piece is staggering. You can see the heat radiating from Shou-Lao's throat as he launches a massive fireball across the frame, with embers and smoke trailing into the mountainous background. The golden armor plates along his spine and chest give him a regal, warrior-like appearance that fits perfectly with the Season Pass theme.

The Perfect Split: You have to go with a Red Krackle. It would make the fireball and the glowing embers look like they’re actually crackling with energy, making the animation pop right off the card. If you want to lean into the "Fantasy" aesthetic, a Gold Finish with a Red Neon Border would turn this into a legendary artifact that looks plucked straight from a dragon's hoard.

Stardust: The Cosmic Gatekeeper!

Artist: Creative House Pocket

Source: Bundle - January 26th Start

Rating: 5/5

If you’ve been looking for a variant that feels like a literal piece of the cosmos, Creative House Pocket has delivered a masterpiece with this Stardust.

The detail here is stunning, with the deep blue cosmic body filled with twinkling stars and a glowing white aura that highlights the character's powerful silhouette. The way the "smoke" or cosmic energy billows out around the frame gives the card an incredible sense of presence, making it look like Stardust is physically manifesting onto the board.

Stardust is the ultimate fun police for decks that rely on "cheating" cards into play. Whether it's Hela resurrecting a graveyard, Ultron flooding the board with drones, or Arnim Zola trying to pull off some cloning shenanigans, Stardust stands there and says, "Not on my watch".

The Perfect Split: A Gold Cosmic Border would be absolutely legendary, making the stars in the art look like they’re actually part of a golden galaxy. If you want to lean into that deep space vibe, a Blue Neon Border would highlight the body and the misty energy trails perfectly.

Terrax: The Tamer of Lanes!

Artist: Winking Studios

Source: Bundle - January 26th Start

Rating: 3/5

Winking Studios has delivered the goods with this Terrax the Tamer. This former herald of Galactus isn't just standing around; he’s reaching through the frame to remind your opponent that their deck is about to get a lot heavier. The sense of perspective here is incredible, making his massive cosmic axe and rock-hewn physique look truly imposing.

The art captures Tyros in his most aggressive form, wreathed in electric blue energy that contrasts perfectly with his dark, metallic armor and that signature red cape. It’s the kind of variant that makes you feel like a cosmic conqueror before the first card flips.

The Perfect Split: A Blue Neon Border is an absolute must to match the lightning crackling around him and the cool cosmic tones of the background. If you really want to show off your collection, an Ink Finish with a White Kirby Krackle would make Terrax look like a living monument to cosmic destruction, pulling all the focus onto his detailed, stone-like skin.

Bamf! Nightcrawler Is Here To Steal The Show!

Artist: Don Aguillo

Source: Conquest Shop

Rating: 3/5

Don Aguillo is dropping this absolute heater Nightcrawler variant in the Conquest Shop! If you aren't grinding Conquest for this one, what are you even doing? It captures Kurt Wagner in such a slick, cinematic way that it makes his standard teleportation look like a luxury car commercial.

The way his tail whips around the frame gives the card a massive sense of depth and motion, almost like he’s about to spring right out of the digital cardboard.

I also have to shout out the colors here. The vibrant pink "BAMF" clouds in the background provide such a killer contrast to his deep blue skin and that classic red and black suit. It’s modern, it’s sharp, and it feels incredibly premium for a reward you can earn just by playing the game.

The Perfect Split: You really can’t go wrong with a Purple Neon Border. It would match those teleportation clouds perfectly and tie the whole aesthetic together without distracting from Don Aguillo's fantastic linework. If you’re feeling lucky with your splits, an Ink Finish with a White Krackle would make him look like a gritty noir hero stepping out of the shadows.

This Nightcrawler is easily one of the best Conquest rewards we’ve seen in a long time. Make sure you hit those medals hard because you do not want to miss out on this teleporting masterpiece!

01/07

Phase and Blaze: Kitty Pryde’s Electric Evolution!

Artist: Creative House Pocket

Source: Bundle - Phase and Blaze

Rating: 4/5

If you thought Kitty Pryde couldn’t get any cooler, Creative House Pocket is here to prove you wrong with this "Phase and Blaze" variant! This Kitty Pryde variant isn't the classic girl next door version of Katherine Pryde; this is a high-energy, power-surging Shadowcat who looks like she’s about to phase straight through your opponent's win condition.

The art is absolutely electric. Kitty is captured in a dynamic crouch, wreathed in vibrant blue and purple energy that highlights her phasing ability in a way we rarely see. The addition of Lockheed on her shoulder, looking just as ready for a fight, is the perfect touch for any X-Men fan. The watercolour-style background with its soft clouds provides a beautiful contrast to the sharp, neon lightning effects surrounding Kitty herself.

The Perfect Split: You have to go with a Purple Neon Border. It would excellently match the energy trailing off her hand and her hair, tying the whole cosmic aesthetic together.

Clea: The Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension!

Artist: Mooncolony

Source: Super Rare

Rating: 4/5

Clea is one of the most unique cards we’ve seen in a long time, trading traditional power for a mystical arsenal that can cripple your opponent’s board before they even know what hit them.

The art here is purely magical. Mooncolony has captured Clea in the middle of a high-stakes spell, with ancient, floating tomes swirling around her as she focuses her energy into those iconic yellow mandalas. Her expression is pure, unadulterated "Sorcerer Supreme" intensity, and the vibrant purple and blue cosmic background makes her feel like she’s truly standing at the edge of the Dark Dimension.

The Perfect Split: A Purple Neon Border is an absolute must to match the energy of the Dark Dimension in the background. If you really want to lean into her mystical heritage, a Gold Finish with a Pink Krackle would make the floating books and spell circles look like they’re actually glowing with divine light.

01/08

01/09

Hope Summers: The Only Hope for Your Energy Curve!

Artist: Grafit Studio

Source: Bundle - Only Hope

Rating: 3/5

The detail in this piece is phenomenal. The way her hair flows wildly behind her as she channels her power, combined with the warm, sunset-hued background, creates a sense of epic scale. The energy effects are the real star here, with those glowing orange and red flames around her wrists and the piercing beams of light from her eyes making the art feel alive even before the animation kicks in.

This variant is launching on January 9th, 2026, as part of the "Only Hope" bundle. If you want your ramp plays to look as explosive as they feel, this is the definitive version of Hope Summers for your collection. Just try not to get blinded by the light!

The Perfect Split: You absolutely have to aim for a Red Neon Border. It would perfectly frame those psychic eye beams and the energy surging from her hands, making the whole card look like it's vibrating with power. If you really want to lean into her Omega-level status, a Gold Finish with a Gold Krackle would be breathtaking, turning the sunset background into a literal aura of cosmic fire.

01/11

Zombie Scarlet Witch: The Chaos Magic of the Undead!

Artist: Fireball Studio

Source: Bundle - Night of the Living Witch

Rating: 5/5

Fireball Studio has delivered an absolutely bone-chilling take on the Scarlet Witch that perfectly balances high-stakes horror with that signature chaos magic flair.

The art is hauntingly beautiful in the most unsettling way possible. Wanda’s rotting skin and hollow, glowing eyes tell you everything you need to know about the "Undead Horde" season. But the real highlight is the way her crimson magic swirls around her hands in those jagged, chaotic patterns, contrasting against the dark, misty graveyard background. It feels like she’s in the middle of a ritual that’s about to go horribly wrong or horribly right, depending on which side of the board you’re on!

The Perfect Split: You have to go with a Red Neon Border. It’s the ultimate choice to match the crimson energy of her hexes and the blood-red tones of her crown. If you really want to show off the details of Fireball Studio’s work, an Ink Finish with a Red or Rainbow Kirby Krackle would make the zombie details pop while keeping the magic looking electric and volatile.

01/12

Sparky: The Goodest Boy in Cyberpunk Style!

Artist: Flaviano

Source: Bundle - Do a Barrel Roll

Rating: 3/5

This "Cyberpunk" variant for Sparky is an absolute explosion of color and kinetic energy, showing everyone's favorite mechanical pup mid-barrel roll in what looks like a very high-tech workshop.

The art is classic Flaviano, vibrant, stylized, and packed with personality. Sparky is rendered in striking greens and blacks with glowing pink and cyan circuitry running across his body. The tilted perspective and the scattered tools in the background give the card a massive sense of motion. It’s a playful, high-energy take on the character that makes him feel like the star of his

The Perfect Split: Any Neon Border is the way to go. It will highlight the glowing lines on Sparky’s body and match the vibrant energy splashes in the art perfectly. If you really want to lean into the Cyberpunk aesthetic, a Rainbow Kirby Krackle would make the whole card look like a glitching neon sign in the best possible way.

THE WRAP-UP

BANG BANG! This stretch of MARVEL SNAP variants proves just how wide the artistic range of the game has become. From Rian Gonzales’ pure joy, pastel chaos to Joshua Raphael’s cinematic, high-fantasy dragons, and powerhouse drops from Creative House Pocket, Artgerm, Mooncolony, and Winking Studios, this was a stacked run for collectors.

Whether you’re chasing cute, creepy, cosmic, or straight-up intimidating, there was something here that probably made you stop, zoom in, and seriously consider spending credits (or tokens).

That said, ratings are always subjective, and that’s half the fun. Some variants aim for emotional charm, others for raw spectacle, and a few live or die by how well they match your personal deck identity. A “2” for one player might be a must-buy “5” for another, depending on taste, nostalgia, or how often the card actually hits the board.

Now I want to hear from you. Which rating did you disagree with the most, and what do you think it should have been? Was a variant underrated? Overhyped? Did a “cute” card deserve more respect, or did a flashy dragon get more love than it earned? Drop your take below, and I will pick a Winner and gift them a Season Pass Bundle!
