I was initially quite disappointed when I got Spider-Man. As one of my first cards in pool 3, he seemed lacking in synergy with any of the pool 1 and 2 decks I'd built, and I failed to see the strength of his ability on it's own.
The first "combo" I noticed while looking through my pool 1 and 2 cards was an very potent 1-2-3 with Storm, Spider-Man, and Professor X. Luring your opponent away from a low or uncontested location with Storm, then guaranteeing a won location with Spider-Man into Professor X. This had me excited...
Game Plan
The deck I've ended up with plays on manoeuvring and reading where your opponent plays, baiting and securing lanes with Storm, Spider-Man, and Professor X, and leveraging that control into a flurry of efficient stat sticks to close out a win. We've all heard the poker analogies for this game, well now it's chess too.
This deck really leans on how your opponent is playing, and how locations will be affecting the flow of the game. Don't rush to throw out Rocket Raccoon or Star Lord, even if you have no other options on curve, if you at least have Storm, your patience should pay off.
If your opening hand has Storm, assess whether you will be giving up the Flooded location, this is the most pivotal point in the game and will often decide the outcome.
Theoretically, if you have Spider-Man and Professor X, you give up the location to guarantee another, then stack up the remaining location with Guardians of the Galaxy. If you don't have that combo, but do have Odin, pre-play a Lizard or Angela into the location you plan to Storm, trying to dodge around where your opponent is playing (usually unrevealed or detrimental locations). Close it out with some combination of cards and prep a Guardian-Odin lane to secure a second location.
Card Discussion
Nightcrawler gives us some additional reach into our Flooded location if needed, while also synergising well with Angela.
Angela and Lizard are simply some of the most efficient 2 drops in pools 1 and 2.
Spider-Man isn't just one half of a disgusting combo, or a manoeuvring tool for the Guardians, he's a potent control card in his own right. Shutting down many turn 6 set-ups such as an Wong, Arnim Zola, Odin, and many more.
Enchantress can cripple many decks, and is extra effective here. Not only synergising with Lizard, but also going into the last turn. If your opponent has the initiative and you know there's a Devil Dino or Blue Marvel on the way, you don't have to guess where it'll be going, there's only one choice.
