Hey guys, Talkwyn here. I just wanted to make a deck guide for the Omega Red deck I've been playing over the past while, and the deck I used to hit Infinite. I played this deck for the majority of my climb, and I think it is a really solid deck, and super underrated right now. 3 cards in this deck have also been buffed this patch (onslaught, klaw, and blue marvel), although I did do most of my climbing pre patch. A lot of people still aren't quite sure about the power output of this deck, leading to many 4 or 8 cube games.
The main reason why this deck is so strong, is because of the onslaught mystique interaction. When you copy onslaught with mystique, every on going effect in that lane gets multiplied by 8, so if you play mr fantastic in that lane, your adjacent lanes get plus 16 power. This is pretty good, but the real nuts happen when we hit Omega Red, and Antman ideally. A lane consisting of Onslaught, Mystique, Omega Red, and Antman, gives 37 power to the Omega Red lane and (presuming you are winning by 10 power in that lane) 32 power to the other lanes. As you can see, this is a lot of power, and the main goal with this deck is to hit some variation of this.
So how do we do this? The ideal perfect hand for this deck is Wave on t3, Onslaught t4, Mystique and Antman t5, Omega Red/Klaw/Mr Fantastic/Blue Marvel t6. However, there is also another way to hit this combo using Sera. You can use Wave, or Pyslocke on t3, into Sera on T4 ,into Onslaught t5. This Onslaught can either be on a lane of its own if you want space to combo with, or on the Sera lane to reduce all your cards by two for a massive turn 6 dump. The latter combo here is why this deck is also great, because it doesn't really on always hitting your combo, you can dump so many cards on doing 6 with Onslaught Sera. This may seem quite hard to hit, and to be honest, there are games where you end up having to retreat for 1 cube because you brick, but you can easily win that back with a 4 or 8 cube victory later on.
Card Choices:
Basically all of the cards that go into this deck are supporting us in hitting the combo as consistently as possible. The one very obvious card I am missing is Magik. I don't own her yet, but she would help the consistency of the deck quite a lot. When I get her I'll be switching out Pyslocke for her. Quick note on Pyslocke, a few people generally don't like her in this list, but she's pretty solid for getting out sera early, or with your t5 Mystique to drop a 3 drop and 4 drop. This deck does use a few Pool 3 cards that are pretty essential.
Mystique: This deck is completely unplayable without Mystique, as she enables the crazy Onslaught combo.
Wave: is also pretty essential in order to cheat out Onslaught and Sera consistently.
Sera: is another amazing card I wouldn't recommend playing this deck without, as she enables you to do some crazy stuff.
Omega Red: Interestingly enough, this deck may actually be playable without Omega Red, as you have a few other cards that can fill his role, but it would be quite a bit weaker in general.
Psylocke: is definitely not required, and as mentioned before can be swapped out for a variety of cards, but hopefully Magik.
Other card choices:
There are a few other cards you can consider running in this deck.
Ebony Maw: This deck usually skips the first two turns of the game, anyway, and 7 power is nothing to scoff at. I really like Ebony Maw in this list, especially as you can circumvent his downside by putting power into his lane through other cards.
Mojo: Is a great card, and can hit some insane numbers if they fill your Onslaught lane, just a good card all around, especially if you're planning on dumping on t6.
Magik: For obvious reasons this card is bonkers (although worth noting, she's less good if a lot of people are running her, as it's better for them to play Magik and you to play cards that advance your board)
Spectrum: We are running alot of ongoing cards in this list, but Spectrum just does not get enough value for her to be worth it, you're better off playing a deck focused around Wong and Spectrum.
Counters:
This deck is pretty much exodia when you get the combo off, but there are a few things that can hurt you. The biggest offender here is enchantress for obvious reasons. If they play that t6 on your combo you are probably going to lose. If you know they run enchantress your best to not focus on combo, and go for a sera angle and pray. Luckily, I saw about 3 or 4 total in my climb to infinite, but this decks power level does fluctuate depending on how many people are playing her at the time. Rogue is another solid counter, that has been seeing quite a lot of play in negative decks, but it's quite easy to identify if they are playing rogue or not. Goblins and debrii can be a big problem, if they hit your onslaught lane, you have one less space to hit your full combo, and are most likely looking at relying on My Fantastic.
Locations:
We'll start with the good. Onslaught's Citadel goes with out saying. As you can see here, you can get an okay amount of power with the combo ;) https://www.youtube.com/shorts/rSiZtpsqchk
Any energy generation locations are great, especially Superflow and Elysium (these two are usually a snap), Titan is also pretty good aswell. Apart from Citadel, the best location for this deck is by far Sinister London, this deck can go absolutely insane with this, I love this location.
All the hard to reach locations like Sanctum and Deaths domain are awesome for this deck, Limbo is S tier, and the card draw locations are pretty good aswell.
Bad locations:
Central Park (I hate this location) means you can never hit a full combo. Mindscape for obvious reasons is bad, but with Magik you are able to change it. Dream Dimension is really rough for this deck. Isle of Silence isn't really that bad, you just don't play on this lane. Subtarranea is annoying as always.
Final Words:
I genuinely believe this is a really strong and competitive deck. It isn't the easiest deck to play, there's quite a few weird lines and it changes quite often, but it's so much fun and feels quite rewarding when mastered, not to mention super fun to play. I'm excited to see where this list ends up!
