Originally this was intended to maximize T3 Psylocke/Wave, T4 Nimrod, T5 2-cost + Venom, T6 Taskmaster with T6 Zola on Nimrod as a backup option, but once I realized I could play Zola on Venom instead I realized I had a much more powerful interaction on my hands.
Ideal line:
- Turn 1: Play Nova to the lane where we are planning to later play Nimrod -> Venom -> Zola (the "destroy location")
- Turn 2: If we just drew Nova, see Turn 1. Otherwise, play Lizard, Cloak, or Scarlet Witch to the destroy location.
- Scarlet Witch can answer a problematic location
- Cloak could let us move Nova if we played him T1 and want to switch locations
- Lizard provides the most power on T2 without blocking the location (Ebony Maw) or risk losing that power (Titania)
- Turn 3: Wave or Psylocke to set up for T4 Nimrod. When choosing a location for these cards:
- If we can't fill 3 slots on the destroy location before playing Venom on T5, play ramp to the destroy location
- Otherwise, play to the leftmost location other than the destroy location (leave the rightmost other location empty)
- Turn 4: Nimrod to the destroy location
- Turn 5: Finish filling the first three slots of the destroy location (prioritize Nova, then highest power plays like Sable and Titania) and play Venom to the fourth slot, getting big, spreading Nova buffs around, and sending Nimrod to the other lanes
- Venom should be 10-15 power depending on how we filled the lane, with 6+ power in the Nimrod+Wave/Psylocke lane and 5 power in the third lane with just Nimrod (6 if we hit Nova
- Turn 6: Zola into the Venom lane
- 1st Venom eats Nimrod and friends, growing to ~20 power and sending Nimrod to the Zola lane and the solo Nimrod lane
- 2nd Venom eats two Nimrods, growing to ~25 power and sending two Nimrods to the other locations
- End with 15 or 18 power in the Zola location (Zola + 3 Nimrods), ~30 in the 1st Venom location (Venom + 2 Nimrods), and ~25 in the 2nd Venom location (just Venom)
- Note that, even if Nova provides the minimum number of boosts (the T5 Venom only ate Nimrod then Nova, and the ramp card was also in play but wasn't played to the Venom location), it contributes 13 total power (+2 to each of the two Venoms, +1 to each of the 5 Nimrods still on board, +1 to the Venoms for each Nimrod they ate on T6 (1st Venom ate 1, 2nd ate 2), and +1 to the ramp card (also eaten by Venom)). By contrast, Silver Sable always contributes 12 total power (+6 to each Venom).
Backup options:
- With T5 Nimrod, try to set up a big Venom splitting the first Nimrod + Deathlok splitting Nimrod again for 3 total Nimrods
- Deathlok can act as backup Venom (though it will be much smaller), or can be fed into Venom if we can't set up Nimrod
- Use Scarlet Witch to deal with problematic locations on turn 2 or 5, or play Cloak turn 2 to move Nova off of a problematic location on turn 3.
Risks:
- Virtually every tech card other than Rogue or Enchantress can shut down our plan A, and often our plan B as well (including Armor, Goose, Cosmo, Juggernaut, Storm, Spider-Man, Aero, Leech, Professor X, Magneto, and probably a couple more I'm forgetting). Sadly, there's no real way to play around most of them. Frankly, this is a major issue and probably means the deck is bad without a more developed plan B.
- While we have a couple cards to interact with locations, that doesn't mean anything if we don't draw them at the right time and several of them (including Flooding from Storm) will also ruin our plans if we can't deal with them.
Other cards to consider:
- A Zero package can act as a backup plan without significantly impacting our Plan A:
- Turn 1 or 2 Zero enables Turn 2 Titania while being fine with our other turn 2 plays (if we don't need to deal with a location)
- Other cards that are good with Zero also make good food for Venom even without Zero; in particular, Typhoid Mary gives us enough time to play Venom into Zola or Nimrod into Venom + Deathlok without ramp
- Forge can help feed Venom in our plan A by boosting the ramp card, or can contribute 8-9 power to the T5 Nimrod, T6 Venom + Deathlok backup plan (+2 to Venom for the Nimrod it ate, +2 to each of the 3 surviving Nimrods)
- The Hood gives us a 6 power unit to feed to Venom, but we don't have a way to get rid of Hood himself before a Venom eats him too
- Taskmaster is still an effective backup option, but doesn't contribute to our plan A at all
- Shuri is similar, only being useful in games where our plan doesn't come together
- America Chavez helps us ramp into T4 Nimrod and T5 Venom or Deathlok, but lowering the chance of T6 Zola may do more harm than good
Seems good, but I wouldn't bother with:
- Wolverine could bounce between Venom locations, but will likely take the spot of a Nimrod at some point
- Sauron could let us play more cards with downsides (i.e. Ebony Maw), but doesn't fit into our curve well
- Colleen Wing + Swarm could help fill locations for extra Venom food, but you're too likely to discard something else to Colleen with how many 1 and 2 costs we're playing
