Super Try-hard Rendition Of Nearly Good Deck for Obtaining Kubes
I almost got there, acronyms are hard. There are many decks called S.T.R.O.N.G.D.O.K but this one is mine. My thought process for what would make a good Strong Guy deck was M.O.D.O.K on turn 6, which is not something I've seen many exploring. If your plan is to consistently play a 5 drop on turn 6 then you should also be planning to play a 1 drop along side it. The strongest "1-drops" you can play at the moment are Titania, Demon, Miles Morales & Stature. Miles is currently lacking a package of cards that would make him work consistently in this deck and as a niche Series 5 card, until she downgrades most people including myself don't have her. Now I have theory-crafted what I think a Stature version of this deck would look like which you can find here (https://snap.fan/decks/223345/). Both decks are very similar though so if you read the deck techs for both be aware it's largely a copy and paste job so feel free to skip around. Your currently reading the version without Stature though so Titania & Demon are the picks. With those 4 cards cemented as the core of the deck, I’ll go over my thinking around the rest of my inclusions.
Morbius - is the staple payoff of any discard deck, and this one is no exception. Morbius routinely ends up being 8+ power for two cost. It's an obvious include.
Shang-Chi & Killmonger - Shang-Chi feels mandatory in the current meta, simple as that. Killmonger while not as important is the best way to remove The Hood and felt very helpful against the crazy number of Thanos decks I've been seeing. Still these two are filling the flex slots in the deck, and in a different meta that doesn’t require them they can be easily be replaced. As a side note though if you do replace Killmonger you may want to add Carnage since otherwise you may find yourself stuck with The Hood.
Green Goblin - is here to be paired with Titania. If you’re not familiar with the combo, on turn 4 if your opponent has two cards at a location or you believe they are likely to play there you can play Titania into Green Goblin. Goblin will jump across and Titania will follow after filling the location. It is very rare for your opponent to fill a location on turn 4 and if they go to 3 Titania won't have room to jump making this quite a safe play. This will often steal you the location only needing to take Titania back on the final turn, which our deck is in a unique position to do since we try to play a one drop next to M.O.D.O.K. This is one of my favourite combos in the game currently and often was solely responsible for a win.
Viper - It’s best practice when playing The Hood to run at least two ways to remove him. We’re already running Killmonger as a tech card and out of Carnage and Viper, I prefer Viper. She has a little bit of negative synergy with Killmonger, but since our deck curves so low we almost always have something else we could play. Viper also makes our Goblin Titania combo a more frequent option and helps mitigate the downside of our next card...
**Mysterio ** - was a late addition but really helped make the first few turn more consistent. His downsides are not helping at all with gaining priority (something we just weren't going to be able to do anyway) and restricting board space which we also don't struggle with. So 2 energy for 4 power ends up being good enough.
Wolverine - is technically a M.O.D.O.K payoff. Unless your playing him into a location that will kill him I always aim to discard him. Best case scenario he lands in a location you otherwise can't play to or a 4 power surprise after you M.O.D.O.K that your opponent didn't see coming. Ultimately though I don't know if those upsides are enough to justify his inclusion in the deck. The main reason he's here is that I like Wolverine, so he stays.
Maria Hill - As helpful as it would be, you don’t always draw every card when you’d like to and in those games we have Maria. We almost always play M.O.D.O.K on six so having a one drop alongside him is very important. Maria solves this problem and is also a good early game tempo play. Lastly if you don’t end up needing the card she makes it will become another discard for Morbius.
A couple of notes on play. Titania is never a turn 1 play, use her with Goblin to lock a location or only when you can guarantee she won't be jumping. Hood into Viper equals Snap in this house please respect it. Try not to be to greedy with Shang-Chi, without M.O.D.O.K on six the deck is not doing heaps, so planning to instead play Shang on the final turn will rarely give you the best results. Last if it looks like you might be able to lock a lane with Goblin don't be afraid to put Strong Guy and Morbius in the same location, you only need to win 2.
So that's my list, a couple of things before I leave you though. First the initial version had Aero, but this deck is atrocious at playing for priority. Strong Guy, Morbius and a Titania on the enemy side aren't worth a damn before the M.O.D.O.K, and without priority Aero sucks. Aero is actually what I replaced for Mysterio since I figured I might as well double down and make Shang-Chi a little better at least. Next I sincerely doubt this is the decks final form but I believe in the idea and I hope someone more talented than me can take it and optimise the last few slots. It may take a balance patch till alot of that work can begin though since Shuri and Aero have warped the meta so much I have to assume a change is coming. Lastly I'd like to thank the few people that left comments on some of my other decks. I really enjoy deck building and it feels really satisfying that people were interested enough to say something. Going forward I'm going to try to be posting something unique at least once a week. They will mainly be Theory-crafts though since that's what I enjoy the most but I'll be aiming to post them when any unreleased cards are within a week of release. So thanks for reading and let me know how you found the deck and any changes you made that brought you greater success.
