I piloted this deck from Rank 93 to 118 during the May season while averaging +0.88 cubes per game. I plan on using it to climb back to infinite for June. The Global Stats for the deck are worse overall which indicates that it has a high skill-ceiling and depends on your piloting.
The deck is very good. The inclusion of Daredevil is great for snapping on Turn 5 with Spider-Man and Professor X, but I generally snap on Turn 1 if I have any early play because of how consistent it is. High Evolutionary is by far the worst card in the deck and that really says something.
Generally you will want to play 1 turn behind. If you have Sunspot in your opening hand, play it on Turn 2 instead of Turn 1. By doing that you lose out on only +1 power for Sunspot but you gain +4 for Hulk. The only exception here is if you have Nebula, which I play on Turn 1 instead and then Sunspot on 2 if you have it.
Don't focus too hard on any particular location. It is okay to play Storm and then abandon the lane if you don't have a good follow-up. Storm on Turn 3 and Cyclops on Turn 4 is a nice way to get some extra points.
On Turn 5 you want to lock down a lane with Spider-Man or Professor X. If you had already played Storm then your opponent will be limited to only 1 location for Turn 6. There are some really tricky plays that you can go for with Professor X too like locking down a lane that you lose in order to prevent your opponent from bouncing or playing too many cards with things like Sera on the board.
The best Turn 6 play is Hulk but Doctor Doom is solid for threatening multiple locations. I tend to not play Doctor Doom if I have played Professor X already though since you lose a lot of value. Sometimes I will mindgame myself into playing Doctor Doom over Hulk and then lose because I made the wrong decision.
Jeff could probably be a good inclusion but I haven't worked out which card I'd cut.
Opposing cards to be aware of
- Luke Cage - If your opponent has played several Ongoing cards or things like Hood and Green Goblin, look out for Luke Cage. He generally shows up in either an Ongoing or a Hazmat shell. If you expect him then consider not saving extra energy for Cyclops to use.
- Galactus - This big boy is very straightforward to counter, especially with this deck. If you see Yondu + Wolverine or a ramp card, play your cards to the other lanes and lock them down with Storm, Spider-Man, and Professor X to prevent them from playing cards afterwards. Doc Oc can hurt a lot though.
- Sera - Limiting the number of cards your opponent can play is key to beating a Sera play since they are generally trying to play as many cards as possible.
- Kitty Pride - This deck has a really good matchup against bounce decks since they aren't able to play back into a location after you lock it down.
