The Game Plan
Spectrum has been overshadowed by new cards and strategies since late last year, but this deck aims to make her relevant again with the help of a small Darkhawk package with Bast and Iron Man as support.
The idea here is to set up verticality in one lane with Iron Man or Darkhawk, with a Wong allowing our Spectrum to put out +4 power to all the cards we put on the board (with the two exceptions being Bast and Korg). With this list I've found that I can at least compete with most decks, outputting 20+ power in the lanes where we need it, and sometimes more depending on the scenario.
The Decklist
- Ant Man is an easy 1-cost inclusion that benefits from Spectrum and Bast.
- Bast enables almost every card in our deck except for Klaw and Spectrum, but even then the slight power reduction there is paid back in full with cards like Iron Man, Mystique, and Darkhawk.
- Korg is here to help our Darkhawk reach 8 power in most games and provide a little hand disruption. His low cost makes him easy to slot in, and he gets a minor bonus from Bast.
- Armor is a great tech card to slot in against Destroy decks, benefits from Spectrum's buff, protects our Darkhawk, and allows us to get into locations we usually couldn't.
- Colossus is included here for his low cost and tech potential while being an Ongoing for Spectrum's buff. You could argue for Lizard in this deck, but Bast lowering Lizard's value led me to choosing Colossus, although Luke Cage in this slot isn't bad either. I personally like his use as a selfish Armor, allowing us to control locations like Rickety Bridge.
- Mystique is a catch-all for this deck and offers a lot of flexibility. She can boost our Wong play, become a second Iron Man or Darkhawk, and benefits from Bast and Spectrum. What's not to love?
- Mister Fantastic is an easy to include Ongoing card here that allows us to get into inaccessible locations. He also benefits from Bast and Spectrum, which is a boon in this deck.
- Darkhawk is a high-power inclusion in this deck, allowing for some easy verticality while benefiting from Bast, Korg, and Spectrum.
- Wong is here to make our Spectrum play especially worth it while having the minor benefit of a turn 5 Korg into Darkhawk.
- Iron Man is the second piece that allows this deck to shine, since like Darkhawk he benefits from Bast and Spectrum. He's also a great target for Mystique.
- Klaw is a backup plan for when we need to boost two lanes. Having the ability to boost an Iron Man or Darkhawk lane while supporting his own lane is a huge benefit, I find.
- Spectrum is the focus of this deck, and really does make a difference for spreading power. Combined with Wong, she can easily add 20 power onto the board come turn 6. Admittedly, on her low end she doesn't swing lanes by herself, so you have to be tactical with when you use her versus another vertical play.
The Wrap-Up
I find that this deck is not only playable, but has the potential to climb much higher with some choice swaps. That being said, I am happy with how this list is doing so far and would be interested to see some other folks play around with it.
