Got to Top 100 with this list after climbing about 350 sp since the Elsa nerf. The general gameplan is that we play some very strong cards that want priority (Cosmo, Jugg, Kingpin) and can win a lot of 4/8 cubers as it's very hard to play around all the tools that this deck has.
General Tips:
- Unlike other Surfer decks, twe are much less reliant on a T6 surfer than most other lists. I'd say I only play Surfer in 50% of the games that I draw him. Generally the more guaranteed path of victory is through Jugg or Cosmo, so my best advice is see if you can win the game through your tech cards first, and then Surfer is your very strong Plan B.
- If it wasn't obvious, Colleen Wing's purpose is to discard Daken's shard. Do not play her on 2.
- On Turn 2, Mobius is generally the best play. Goose can also be played on 2, but is also fine to weave in on 5 when you want to lock out a lane.
- Delaying Kingpin as long as possible is generally the best course of action so you can play him on open lanes. Often the threat is stronger than the execution with him as well, as your opponent might frantically fill up a Kingpin lane to avoid getting blown up. Remember that Kingpin needs Priority if you want him to snipe a Jeff or Vision moving.
- Turn 3 can ironically sometimes be a bit awkward since we don't have a ton of cards we want to slam on turn 3, with Daken and Brood being generally the best, followed by Kingpin. Depending on the matchups/locations you may want to Killmonger, Cosmo or Jugg on 3.
Matchup Tips:
- [Thanos: favored] - Throw priority and Killmonger on 3 if you have it. If you don't, Goose can prevent an X but also just playing Daken or cards that can beat X with a Surfer buff is often a good way to not get scammed. Goose is amazing in this matchup, as after turn 3, they really want to be playing their top end, so you can Jugg and Cosmo with precision. Dino is generally their scariest card.
- [Loki : toss-up] - This imatchup is just live or die by drawing Mobius. If you don't draw him, you WILL die to Loki so be very willing to leave if they snap. If you do draw Mobius, try to protect it from Rogue with Cosmo. Even if they do Rogue it, it's generally still okay to stay in as they generally won't have a full hand as they usually do something like T2 Collector, T3 Rogue T4 Loki. If you do not draw Mobius, all hope is not lost though. Try your best to get priority and snipe the Loki with Cosmo. I've won quite a few games vs top players with that. Lastly, Killmonger is surprisingly good in this matchup to slow down their Elsa lane. If you have Killmonger, consider trying to throw priority so you can KM turn 3.
- [Darkhawk: unfavored] - This is one of the harder matchups since we don't run Rogue or Luke Cage and Man-Thing absolutely dumpsters us. Still, we have a few cards that are good in the matchup. Mobius bricks their Zabu, and like the Loki matchup, them spending their turn 3 trying to Rogue us doesn't really both us. If they don't have Zabu up, Goose severely limits them as they really don't have a ton of power that can go under Goose. Jugg/Kingpin is also a decent way to win games since a lot of them will save their Hawk for T6.
- [Destroy: favored] - Probably the easiest common matchup. Try to get priority early, and shut down their gameplan with Cosmo or Jugg. Goose is great in this matchup to play out on Turn 5, and Mobius also is a card you want to see.
- [Shuri: favored] - Goose, Cosmo and Killmonger are very good in this matchup. If you have priority on turn 6, you can also hilariously snipe a Vision moving with Kingpin.
- Vs other random matchups like Hela, Patriot, Cerebro, it's usually about identifying what tech cards will win you the game. In general, because we don't run Rogue (a solid inclusion if you want to run it), matchups with key Ongoing cards are generally our most difficult matchups.
