Note that this list was made before the Maximus change. Still playing around with other options!
The Game Plan
With Gladiator being the newest overstatted-but-with-a-downside card I wanted a deck that could play to his strengths the most, and came up with this Surfer list!
Since Maximus and Gladiator are like best friends, a lot of cards in this deck benefit both of them, and with Cosmo, can totally negate the bad side. We have power buffs, some lane control, and good old Sera to make our last turn a bang.
The Decklist
- Forge buffs Brood, Gladiator, and Maximus to get a lot of power on a lane. Typically I try to make sure the lane I put Forge in is the same lane where my Surfer and Sera go, since it leaves space for those big cards in the other lanes. The best cards to buff go: Brood > Gladiator > Maximus.
- Nebula is a nice powerhouse and lane control tool, and works well at getting our opponent to fill a lane to negate the downside of Gladiator.
- Goose is strictly for lane control, since it benefits 80% of our deck and can block a pesky Evo Hulk or Knull.
- Brood is a prime target for Forge, Nakia, and Silver Surfer. It can also put up enough stats to clear a lane.
- Rogue is a nice tech card to steal a bunch of very strong cards, and since this deck doesn't always have priority by turn 6, she can be a real cube stealer.
- Silver Surfer is a huge piece in this deck for obvious reasons, but the amazing thing is that he buffs both Maximus and Gladiator to 9 power- right below Shang-Chi !
- Cosmo is a tech against On Reveal for both ourselves AND our opponent! Really incredible in this deck and both Gladiator and Maximus love this card!
- Nakia is a simple handbuff card that works well at making the cards that count (Brood, Maximus, and Gladiator) better. Like Forge, I try to play her in a lane that Sera and Silver Surfer go to get maximum points in other lanes.
- Gladiator is a tricky card, but one that feels really at home in this list. The best plays with him can be done on turn 6, when he's buffed, and/or when lanes are full. Sometimes, however, it's good to use him as a disruption tool if you can tell the deck you're playing against wouldn't like it.
- Maximus is both similar but different to Gladiator in that he benefits from all the same cards, but not nearly as much since only Cosmo negates the bad side of his text. Playing him before turn 6 is extremely risky, so it's almost always better to play him last turn.
- Shang-Chi is a tech in this list not only because our opponents don't expect this, but it help in the few instances where Gladiator pulls something big and you don't want it on the board. Stole a lot of cubes playing him!
- Sera is the ultimate turn 5 play and can lead to an insane amount of power come turn 6. Maximus and Gladiator can be played on the same turn as Silver Surfer, making what is essentially a 6/20 play! Obviously Sera's other strengths come in letting us make an informed play with most of our cards, and can really come in clutch in a tight situation.
The Wrap-Up
Having two 3/7s in this list is NUTS and really makes Silver Surfer a point powerhouse again. Love this deck, my favorite form of Silver Surfer to date!
