After stalling out in the 120 range for a while, I was able to push into the top 100 this season using this Nimrod Shuri deck that I have been playing off and on for a few months. I believe it was originally created by the top player Lamby who shared a piece of Snap wisdom that I have found to be true ever since. It is always better to go all in on doing something powerful than it is to hedge your bets. In this deck, you are all in on Nimrod. Being all in makes it easy to understand your win conditions, max power, and when to get out. In that respect, this is an easy deck to pilot on its surface. Though there are some end game dynamics that can be tricky and that you require some reps to get right.
The Plan: The plan is simple. Play shuri, then nimrod, then blow up nimrod, preferably at least twice. There are two backup plans that I find can work okay - ramp into Nimrod on 4 with x23 or make a big vemon and Zola it.
The counters: This is the real magic of this deck. The biggest counter by far is professor X, who made this deck unplayable last season and has since vanished. Outside of that, you die to armor and are weak against cosmo, alioth and shadow king. Otherwise, you are pretty much golden. Shang can be interesting, but doesn't usually work well on nimrod. Loki is terrible against us and obviously rogue, enchantress, mobius are useless. The only consistently tricky matchup out there right now is regular destroy. You are going to make them a giant knull and free death that you will need to play around. Luckily for me, destroy is very unpopular in high infinite play.
Early game: Your entire goal is to get to shuri then nimrod and that is all you need to worry about for the first 3 turns. You almost always skip turn 1 even if you have x23. The only turn 1 play, and a snappable play, is the nico destroy spell. Your best play turns 1-3 is the nico destroy spell to make sure that you draw nimrod or at least shuri or iron lad. Outside of that, you play magic on 3 and wait. Beware of cluttering your board with x23 for no reason. If you don't have a specific use for her, it is usually better to not play her because she can block a 12 power nimrod later in the game. Similar story with wolverine, though not as bad since he can get bigger.
Turns 4-5: If you have shuri into nimrod without some terrible location luck, you snap before turn 4. Second best play on 4 is Iron Lad. Lad your backup plan for both shuri and nimrod. If you have shuri in hand and no Nimrod, you play shuri and then lad and hope to hit nimrod. If you have nimrod and no shuri, you play lad and hope for shuri and then play nimrod. If you miss on getting a nimrod out on turn 5 you are probably dead unless you hit a big wolverine with Iron Lad. You can turn a big wolverine into a big vemon which gives you some options.
Turn 6-7: Now you want to start blowing stuff up. First you need to access your situation. Can your opponent turn of a limbo? Is is possible that they have a hard counter? What lanes do you want your power to go into? If you get snapped after playing nimrod, expect a counter like cosmo or alioth. Armor is worse, though I almost never see her. The most straight forward play is to kill nimrod with carnage/deathlock/venom. But the surprise play is Destroyer instead. They always expect you to play a destroy card on the Nimrod lane and that is where they will try to stop you. You can play around that by playing destroyer somewhere else. But you have all kinds of options to spread power. Any combo of destroyer, carnage/vemon/deathlock or a Arnim Zola on a solo nimrod or vemon or destroyer will put 24-48 power in multiple lanes. You can generally out power everything except for Tribunal and dodge most counter cards. There are some ticker plays like playing Zola on a destroyer or carnage that can surprise your opponent and shift power in different ways. You just need to be aware of board space and where everything will end up.
Backup plans: If you have x23, nimrod and some destroy cards but no shuri, you can ramp into nimrod on 4 which lets you get a ton of 6 power nimrods. Not great, but it can work. The other backup plan is to get as big of a venom as possible and then Zola it. That usually means getting a big wolverine going or some iron lad shenanigans.
Replacement cards: There is a phoenix force version that people seem to like and swaps a few cards. For me, I would say that everything except for x23 is pretty necessary. You could replace her with forge as a shuri backup.
