The Game Plan
With Speed quickly becoming one of my favorite 3 drops, I wanted to put him in a list that complimented his ability but didn't rely on it. I ended up modifying a list I made a little bit ago called Good Soup, which is just a bunch of solid cards put together that don't need a combo to win. It felt fine, but I didn't make a guide on it because it didn't feel comprehensive enough.
I tightened up the curve and added Speed, and here we are! Try to play on curve with your good stuff, use Hawkeye Kate Bishop to fill the gaps, and use the tech pieces in here like Echo, Shang-Chi, Red Guardian, and Alioth to shut down plays that would go over you.
The Decklist
- Echo is an amazing little 1 drop that can excel in a lot of games. She can protect a lane against cards like Knull or Darkhawk with ease, leaving a lane you know you can hit later with a Shang-Chi. She also doesn't have a visible indicator of her ability, so a lot of players put cards on her lane accidentally, leading to some crazy wins.
- Hydra Bob is a big 1/5 with the ability to flex in and out of locations as necessary. He also pairs well with a Gamora on turn 6 if Alioth isn't the best play, which is helpful in filling your curve for Speed.
- Daredevil is a really underrated card, but in this list he serves 2 purposes: setting up for Gamora, and telling you where to use your tech pieces. Nailing a Mockingbird or Darkhawk with Shang-Chi could be critical.
- Hawkeye Kate Bishop is a flexible curve-filler that can provide a ton of versatility, which helps when providing a bonus to Speed.
- Jeff the Baby Land Shark is the ultimate 2 drop, allowing us to fight in inaccessible locations and protect ourselves from clog decks.
- Red Guardian is a really solid tech card that can shut down powerful cards like Ironman and Dracula while still being 5 power after he hits a target.
- Speed is a really reliable big card that can help us scale over our opponent's cards without being devastated by Shang-Chi or Enchantress, as he has a base of 3 power and hits 9 power on turn 6. He's really well-rounded and fits on this list like a glove.
- Shang-Chi is a classic and reliable tech card to stop our opponent's greedy plays. He gets helped out by Daredevil and can pair nicely with some arrows from Hawkeye Kate Bishop.
- Jessica Jones is a reliable 9 power with virtually no downside in this list, since Jeff, Vision, and Hydra Bob can move in and out of her lane.
- Gamora is a heavy hitter in this list and allows us to contend with bigger cards. She can pair nicely with our 1 drops on turn 6 or nail a card on turn 5 thanks to Daredevil.
- Vision is a flexible card that can make our opponent misplay on turn 6. Having the advantage of knowing where Vision goes is very powerful, and at 8 power he's a threat to any lane.
- Alioth is a powerful last turn finisher that can steal games from a lot of decks, especially combo decks on turn 6. All of this depends on having priority, which thanks to our on-curve plays and information advantage is relatively easy.
The Wrap-Up
On curve, flexible, and with plenty of answers, this deck feels good to play against most decks I come across. Really happy with this list, and really excited to continue to learn and grow with this deck.
