The Game Plan
I've been using this deck for a while, but haven't posted a guide on it. When Daken first came out, the enablers available weren't quite as good, but things have changed, and this deck is a silent performer for me.
Ideally, you play Daken on turn 3, Absorbing Man or Grand Master the Daken on turn 4, play M.O.D.O.K. on turn 5, and then play a big Apocalypse and Swarms galore. Even in situations where the combo doesn't line up, you have cards like Proxima Midnight, Dracula, and Morbius that work really well with M.O.D.O.K. anyway, so it can put up solid numbers regardless.
The Decklist
- Miek is a smaller Morbius in this list that can help reach locations or shift power when we need it. He's 10x better then Jeff the Baby Landshark when M.O.D.O.K. is played, and you really feel the power on turn 6 to keep your opponent on their toes.
- Blade is an incredible enabler in this deck that can get us out of a pinch if we don't draw M.O.D.O.K.
- Morbius is amazing in this list when paired with M.O.D.O.K., and can easily reach 12+ power. I tend to focus on building two lanes- one with Morbius, and the other with Daken.
- Swarm is a staple in any discard list, and pairs well with M.O.D.O.K. and Blade to fill our board.
- Moon Knight feels amazing with his new changes, and works in this deck to enable Proxima Midnight, Swarm, and Apocalypse.
- Daken is the star of this deck, and when combined with Grand Master can end up being a 3/16. Blade and M.O.D.O.K. enable the destruction of the Muramasa Shard fairly easily, and it makes this deck archetype even more of a threat than it already was.
- Lady Sif is here to do one thing: buff Apocalypse. Getting an extra hit could mean the difference between winning a lane or losing a lane later.
- Dracula is here to combo with Apocalypse, as he regularly ends up being a 4/16 or 4/20 depending on when M.O.D.O.K. or other enablers are played.
- Proxima Midnight is a fantastic hit for a lot of cards in this list, and can help us reach locations like Sanctum Sanctorum easily.
- M.O.D.O.K. is absolutely the crutch of this deck, as he enables nearly every card here. That being said, our other play options CAN stand on their own in the event we don't draw him.
- Apocalypse is fuel for our Dracula, but can stand on his own if M.O.D.O.K. discards him and Dracula isn't in play.
The Wrap-Up
Daken is extremely underrated and it comes down to how much you invest in his ability. A 3/8 is premium stats, but so is a 5/18, which is why Grand Master works so well here. This is generally my go-to deck for discard missions, and no one expects Daken right now.
