Hell's Kitchen
Is a guaranteed 1-cost card draw worth your efforts to build around? Well, I think it's worth a discussion when coupled with learning about 'curve' and using mana effectively. So, let's see what we can build into with this location in mind.
The Featured Location from July 29th, 2023 at 11pm EST to July 30th, 2023 at 11pm EST is Hell's Kitchen. As a featured location, it will have a 50% chance to appear in any ladder match. Now you must make a choice:
- Build INTO It
- Build AROUND It
- Ignore it
How to Build INTO it
- Surfer players will rejoice knowing that their beloved Nova will be guaranteed. Killmonger may be abundant on 1-cost focused days, but at least this one cost benefits you.
- Bast before turn 4 is a huge play for our C3, Bounce & Mr. Negative fans. Pull Bast early and enjoy all the bonus power.
- Nebula always manipulates the board as she sits stagnant gaining power if ignored. Potentially maximize her to 1/9 if fully ignored and enjoy the chaos.
- Quinjet will make those pulls from Mirage, White Queen & the full Heli-carrier crew all that much sweeter. Especially in this new Moongirl meta, this security will be nice.
- The earlier the Deadpool, the earlier the ramp, the larger the power.
- Thanos seems like a no-brainer to me as well today. Think about it...5 out of 6 stones draw cards. So, GET 'EM.
- Automatic 1-cost drawn + guaranteed Chavez only on Turn 6 = around 80% chance to pull any particular card in any game versus a regular 72.7%. That's over a 10% increase in likelyhood which is enough to justify Chavez.
How to Build AROUND it
- Destroy the one costs. ... tada.
Destroy it...proactively...maybe.
Scarlet Witch will switch a location, so you could MAYBE prevent it from appearing on the third location if it hasn't appear yet by playing Scarlet Witch on the right lane while it is still unrevealed. However...the use case for this is incredibly small. No love for Storm, Magik, Legion or Rhino today.
Featured Deck - She-Dino Collector
My featured card to pull in this deck is Quinjet. I've opted for this because there is no downside, only upside. If it's on the field, Hooray! Bonus! If it's not, Oh Well! The deck still runs. Given the popularity of She-Hulk/Moongirl shells right now, I decided to hybrid that shell with the perk of only Quinjet to reduce the pulls from the 6 other cards this deck has that pulls cards into your hand. Sprinkle in the newest card in Snap, Mirage (which can be substituted with Bishop or Beast), and you've got a fun, modern, spicy combo!
