Most 3-Cost cards recently released in Marvel Snap have been highly anticipated, and Copycat is no exception. As a 3/5, she will steal the text from the bottom card of your opponent’s deck when she’s drawn, acting as a disruption tool while heavily relying on RNG.
With the current figures, Copycat is already at a premium stat line, and her ability gives you info about your opponent’s deck and confirms what ability they’ll never draw. On top of that, when Copycat steals the text, she doesn’t alert the opponent, so if she copies something vital like an Annihilus, Red Hulk, Iron Man, or Loki, it’s an instant snap condition.
Cards That Synergize With Copycat
Since Copycat’s ability relies entirely on your opponent’s deck, the sheer RNG makes her self-sufficient, with only a few cards synergizing directly with her. As a tip, it’s recommended that you regularly keep yourself up-to-date with the metagame, seeing which decks are currently active, helping you better predict what text Copycat may steal.
Silver Surfer
As with any new 3-Cost card, you can bet your 8 Cubes that Silver Surfer will be in this category. Surfer gives your 3-Cost cards +2 Power, making it the only card that’ll buff Copycat regardless of the ability she copies. Silver Surfer’s decks are also fairly popular in the current meta, so you’ll likely see Copycat being played with them within the first week.
Korg/Rockslide
Most people are unfamiliar with the fact that Korg and Rockslide shuffle the opponent’s entire deck after adding the rocks. Thus, if you draw Copycat and play either Korg or Rockslide afterward, there’s a good chance your opponent will get the card whose text got stolen. However, it’s worth mentioning that this playline won’t work if you play these two before drawing Copycat since she’ll then steal the text of the bottom card after the shuffle.
Mystique
Mystique is a great pairing with Copycat in case she steals the text of an Ongoing card from your opponent’s deck. If that happens, you can subsequently play Mystique to double the effect. Of course, Mystique is a situational pick here, and her synergy with Copycat immediately terminates if the stolen text isn’t Ongoing.
Absorbing Man
Like Mystique’s Ongoing effect, Absorbing Man can work with Copycat if she steals an On-Reveal ability instead. This could potentially lead to several possibilities, like a double Blob or even a double Doctor Doom, but like Mystique, Absorbing Man’s combo is situational.
Crystal
Although Crystal isn’t necessarily the best tool to draw cards in Marvel Snap, she works well with Copycat because you draw 1 card yourself while bringing your opponent 1 instance closer to their bottom card, which won’t have any abilities. As you know, drawing the bottom card of a deck rarely happens in Marvel Snap, so using Crystal allows Copycat to showcase her “disruption” potential while benefitting you with a card draw.
Absalon's Day 1 Copycat Decks To Get You Started
The text Copycat steals varies each match, so making a deck around her is tricky, to say the least. As mentioned, she’s pretty self-sufficient, like Nocturne and the less-obvious combos give her the edge of being an easy-to-slot card in any deck.
Surfer’s Continuing Reign
With Silver Surfer having a strong synergy with Copycat, it’s only fair that the text stealer enters Surfer’s deck. This lineup has been dominating the chart, having the Win Rate (59.37%) and the 2nd highest Cube Rate (0.82) in the game, proving itself as a tried-and-tested deck with Nocturne instead of Copycat. Besides Nocturne, Copycat can play for disruption and, in case of a highroll, unexpectedly become your most powerful 3-Cost card.
Copycat Surfer
This is yet another Silver Surfer deck, but it has a stronger focus on Copycat thanks to the aforementioned cards that synergize with it. Boasting an impressive 51.54% Win Rate and a 0.41 Cube Rate, this deck is one of the five most played decks in Marvel Snap at the moment. Copycat replaces Nocturne here, and generally, I see this as a strong replacement since the availability of Mystique and Absorbing Man creates interesting lines that your opponent might not expect.
Relentless Mill
If you want something that showcases the disruption factor of Copycat to its fullest extent, a good Mill deck is your best bet. The goal here is to charge through and destroy your opponent’s deck until their very last card, which’ll be useless thanks to Copycat’s ability. Of course, you’ll have to be careful and ensure that your opponent has at least one card in their deck until you draw Copycat, or else she won’t have anything to steal from. However, this won’t be a problem unless you face an Arishem deck, which is still popular these days.
Conclusion
That wraps up my guide on getting started with Copycat, discussing some of her combo synergies and a few decks that’ll effectively use her. I see this card becoming extremely sought-after thanks to her ability to steal Cubes, and her being a natural inclusion in several meta decks puts her in a good position. She might also be in the running for the best card in the Maximum Effort season.
