Everybody likes free Power, don’t they? It's a great feeling when you play a 0/9 Mockingbird or sometimes a 0/10 Sasquatch. Makkari is a similar example: a 3-Cost and 4-Power card that runs from your hand to a random location after the turn ends, essentially playing itself for free. However, unlike the aforementioned examples, having a 3-Cost card with underpowered stats and no meaningful synergies makes Makkari much more complex, so stick around as we dive deeper into this card!
Playstyle and Card Synergies
Playing Makkari is fairly straightforward—you can either use Energy and place her down in a specific location or let her run to a random location herself without using any Energy. Since she isn’t played, Makkari doesn’t activate certain locations like Bar Sinister or Krakoa. Due to this card’s unbelievably vanilla nature, she doesn’t have a ton of impact on the board, and not many cards or combos need her specifically.
Silver Surfer
For any 3-Cost card coming to Marvel Snap, Silver Surfer is among the obvious cards to go along with them. Surfer gives your 3-Cost cards +2 Power, and since Makkari is a 3-Cost card that’s played automatically, Surfer can turn her from a free 4-Power card to a free 6-Power card. Silver Surfer’s decks usually include Wong and Odin, so your Makkari will likely get even more buffs.
Moon Girl
What’s better than a free 4-Power card? 2 free 4-Power cards! If you’re lucky enough to draw Makkari after Turn 3 and have Moongirl in your hand, you can use her to duplicate Makkari, who play themselves after the turn, effectively adding 8 Power to your side of the board.
Quake
This is somewhat unorthodox, but Quake is a good contingency in case Makkari’s randomness goes wrong. If your Makkari runs to a location you don’t want her to be, like Bar With No Name or Space Throne, then Quake is a great backup for switching locations to handle that issue. Besides, she’s already a strong disruption card, so having her in your deck isn’t intrusive.
Sersi
Sersi is another powerful but risky card to pair with Makkari, transforming her into a random 4-Cost card for free. Of course, as you know, Sersi’s randomness is always at play, so there’s a fair chance that she turns Makkari into a lower-Power 4-Cost card. As such, it ultimately depends on how willing you want to test your luck.
Absalon's Day 1 Makkari Decks
Because of Makkari’s openness, you can slide her into many decks, but since she doesn’t have much impact, it becomes difficult to justify giving her a deck slot. Most of her synergy lies with Silver Surfer and his decks, but outside of that, most of your options lie with niche alternatives like C4.
Silver-Makkari Rampage
My first Makkari deck showcases one of the most popular versions of Silver Surfer decks, standing at an incredible 57.35% Win Rate and 0.76 Cube Rate. You’d want to play this like any Surfer deck—setting up Wong, Mystique, and Odin to repeatedly activate Silver Surfer while Makkari is on standby, waiting to be buffed.
Makkari’s C4
C4 has always lacked options and customizability compared to other Cerebro decks. With Makkari, you have a free target with Cerebro to get +6 or even +8 Power on the board. You also have the option to replace certain cards in this deck, like Mysterio, with popular tech options like Quake or even Shang-Chi.
Feeding Sersi
This deck is my topmost recommendation if you want to make Makkari work with Sersi, having respectable stats like a 53.31% Win Rate and 0.60 Cube Rate. As you can guess from the deck’s name, the goal here is to use Makkari as a target for Sersi to get a powerful 4-Cost card hopefully. Other cards like Mysterio, Electro, The Hood, and Sentry play a similar role, while Annihilus and Blink act as reliable backups in case you don’t draw Sersi.
Conclusion
That wraps up my guide on Makkari, covering her in-game card synergies and some fun decks you can try out. Unfortunately, as a whole, I don’t see this card taking a meaningful space in meta decks just because she’s so easily replaceable. Most popular 3-Cost cards like Mobius M. Mobius, Gladiator, Sage, and Red Guardian push massive Power to tech, while Makkari’s underwhelming standalone Power output isn’t convincing.
