MARVEL SNAP: June 2024 Development Roadmap
HEEYYY! Welcome to our next MARVEL SNAP DEVELOPMENT ROADMAP (Did you read that with movie-trailer voice? We did.) It’s been a while, we missed you. We’ve got some juicy stuff to jump into today – including details on brand new in-game events and the long anticipated Alliances feature, formerly known as Clans. The team has set a goal this year to ensure MARVEL SNAP is filled with exciting in-game events and special occasions. We aim to offer different ways to play and various rewards for playing – it should always feel like there’s something new in MARVEL SNAP!
There’s an action-packed few weeks coming up kicking off with a chimichanga-fueled Deadpool season, new in-game events, and drumroll … Alliances will be launching on July 30th!
These dev roadmap blogs are a great way to share what the team is currently jamming on, the direction we’re going, and getting feedback from our incredible community. But, quick reminder: plans change all the time – sometimes we realize very late that a feature isn’t going to work out. You might notice Character Mastery is missing from this roadmap and that’s exactly what happened here: we discovered some feature-blocking technical architecture issues. #gamedevelopment No worries, the team has pivoted towards some awesome things we’re excited to share. Let’s do itttt!
Coming Soon
Items listed here are in the final phase of development, and these features are almost ready to release to players! We’re cleaning up, polishing art, and squashing bugs. Our Quality Assurance teams scrape over all the little details to ensure we have as smooth an experience for players as possible. Once features are “Coming Soon,” we can start to plan release dates, timelines and share some insight with players.
The team is hard at work putting the finishing touches on a few much-anticipated features:
- Deadpool’s Diner
- Improved Technical Performance
- Custom Card Improvements
Deadpool’s Diner
The team has set a goal this year to ensure MARVEL SNAP is filled with exciting in-game events and special occasions. We aim to offer different ways to play and various rewards for playing – it should always feel like there’s something new in MARVEL SNAP! Deadpool’s Diner is a great example of the kinds of events we hope to continue bringing to the game throughout the year!
So, take a seat, amigo! To celebrate the upcoming Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine and MARVEL SNAP season, we’re introducing a bunch of content inspired by the movie, including a brand new in-game event that will allow you to wager more than your typical cubes. The steaks have never been higher!
Here at Deadpool’s Diner, you bet Deadpool’s Bubs before you play. You will first start on Table 1, where you will be given enough bubs for your first match. As you win, you’ll earn enough Bubs to step up to table 2, then 3, 4, and so on. As the tables increase, so does the risk. But no risk, no reward! Make your way all the way up to the biggest plate and you’ll unlock a brand new card, Cassandra Nova!!! The games inside Deadpool’s Diner will be outside of the typical ladder games, so there’s no risk to your ranking, just to your stomach with that questionable chimichanga. We love the extra layers of strategy and decision-making this event brings to MARVEL SNAP – not to mention the rewards! We hope this is an event we can bring back with new rewards in the future, so let us know what you think. See you in the Diner!
In Development
Game features in this section are actively being developed, iterated, and improved upon. Our production team dedicates team resources, generates tasks/timelines, and ensures we’re moving forward. Features and systems in this bucket can change dramatically – we might find our initial idea wasn’t fun OR we might discover we can achieve our goals in an unexpected way!
Here’s some features that are currently in development:
- Alliances
- Leagues
- New Card Mechanic
- Collectible Infinity Splits
Alliances
One of the most requested features for MARVEL SNAP is finally coming! Alliances, formerly known as Clans, will be releasing on July 30th. Alliances are the heart of our game’s social experience, providing players with the opportunity to join forces, build communities, and strategize together. Whether you’re founding a new Alliance or joining an existing one, you’ll be able to collaborate with fellow members to complete Bounties, chat with Alliance members, and earn fantastic rewards. We have BIG dreams for Alliances and we’ll be expanding on the feature over time – including our next step, Alliance Competitions! Alliances is a feature for YOU and we’ll be releasing it in phases based on your feedback, let us know what you think!
Leagues
Leagues are another example of the new in-game events that we’re bringing to our ongoing MARVEL SNAP calendar. Leagues are limited-time events where you’ll be matched into groups of 30 similar players to compete on a short-term leaderboard for prizes. Players will have the option to join a Standard League for free or buy into a Premium League, which offers more rewards. During the event, just play games as normal and your League Points will adjust based on your game outcomes. More cubes means more Points! At the end of the League, everyone gets rewards… but, the top spots on the leaderboard will receive the best rewards!
New Card Mechanic: [TBA]
In Concept
We have BIG dreams about what we’d like to bring to the future of MARVEL SNAP! The first step towards these dreams is turning ideas into concepts through discussion, documentation, and planning. Features currently in the “In Concept” phase have been initially scoped out and given shape but have not yet had any engineering or development work done in the game itself.
This is where we’d love your feedback the most! Concepts listed in this section may be elevated in priority, rescoped, or scrapped entirely… or we might hear something completely new from the community.
Here are some of the future concepts we’re thinking about for MARVEL SNAP:
- Draft Mode
- Card Acquisition Improvements
- Alliances Competition
Draft Mode
We’ve had this one on the to-do list since the inception of MARVEL SNAP. Draft Mode is a cornerstone of collectible card games and we’re so excited to bring a “Snappified” version to our game. We’d love to hear your thoughts about what is “core” to draft, any fun draft format ideas, and your hopes and dreams for what Draft Mode looks like in MARVEL SNAP!
Let us know what you think about the roadmap!
