Hello fellow Snappers!
My name is Drewberry and I've been creating Marvel Snap content since BETA! I'm teaming up with Snap.fan to share some of my thoughts on the new card: ECHO!
Echo is a new tech card being added to Snap with a lot of disruptive potential. She is designed to counter pesky ongoing cards but through a proactive approach. Traditionally, ongoing counters have existed in Enchantress & Rogue, both of which are reactive plays to counter your opponents powerful on board effects. Echo however, is a proactive counter that will need to be planned carefully! This can either be used early to restrict a location OR with priority on the same turn to deny your opponents big ongoing play!
Outside of her ability she has a traditional statline of 1 cost for 2 power which means that she could slot in as a tech option for Ka'Zoo lists or Cerebro 2. She also doesn't rely on an on reveal or ongoing ability so she has few counters outside of Killmonger/Elektra. Running into a Zero deck however… could cause some problems.
A few things to clear up about the mechanics of Echo:
- She can remove the abilities from multiple Ongoing cards (not restricted to just 1 trigger).
- Cards that lose their abilities via Echo, can be buffed by Patriot / Washington D.C.
3.If the silenced card is bounced, it will retain its silence.
- If a card is played at Echo's location then moved in the same turn, it will still lose its ability.
Here are some theorycrafted builds that I believe could work with Echo:
Wong decks have been terrorized by Cosmo for over a year now, but finally they have.. half an answer! Echo will help protect your wong from cosmo, but it won't protect from Rogue/Enchantress. Still the upside from not having your On Reveals countered should bring some life to big Odin + Wong plays.
This list will likely require some tweaking but there’s no denying that Valkyrie is a fantastic combo with Echo! Valk can be countered by cards with ongoing abilities that increase their power, so adding Echo should help mitigate that counter. Stack a bunch of cheap things in one location then throw down valk on turn 6 for a big swing!
One of the most consistent cerebro lists finds itself adding another potential tech option. It's difficult to say whether Echo will be worth adding to this list over other 2 power cards but in combination with storm & Goose, the lockdown might be enough to force a retreat.
Echo will be released as a SERIES 5 card (6000 tokens)! It will be available in spotlight caches from July 18-24, alongside spotlight variants for IronLad & Kang.
In conclusion, Echo will be a nice tech option for many decks but with so many exciting cards coming soon, this is a PASS in my books. Great pickup for those with full collections or when it drops from Series 5 to 4.
Thanks for reading!
