Eddy's Valiant Variants: July Winners & Losers

Welcome to another Youtube Vi… wait what!? An article on Snap.Fan!?

Hey everyone, my name is Eddy, and I’m a Marvel Snap content creator here to share my love of Marvel Snap variants with all of you. With every new season and patch, the developers add new cards, features, bundles, nerfs, and buffs into the game. But honestly, none of those are quite as exciting as seeing all the new variants that get added (and also datamined) that players will get to collect and upgrade!

What new variants have been added this time? Well, check out this amazing article that has over 100 variants from the latest patch HERE.

From the listed variants, I’m selecting my FIVE favorite and FIVE least favorite variants added this MONTH. Honestly, this might be one of the toughest sets yet to choose from! There are so many incredible variants being added to the game that I had a hard time finding five I didn’t like!

Before jumping into my selections, a lot of people might be wondering, "What do you look for in a variant?" Of course, the answer will differ from person to person. So allow me to explain what I like and dislike about variants in Marvel Snap to help you understand my reasoning for my picks of the winners and losers of July.

First up, what I like...

Variants should take a card and change it drastically. Make the character almost unrecognizable. Rocking a new suit, different colors, venomized, knullified, etc. This is important to me when identifying a unique variant. Another important aspect in my opinion (and yes, it's a weird one) is the background for a card. I rarely split my cards (legendary border, ftw) so having an interesting background around my character is important. It's a part of the art afterall!

Next, what I dislike...

Pixels. 'Nuff said.

O.K. let’s get into the picks!

Top 5 Losers

All The Pixels

On Reveal: Set the Power of all cards in your hand to 3.

After each turn, gain +1 Power for each unspent Energy.

On Reveal: Add a Demon to your hand.

On Reveal: Remove the abilities on the next card you play.

Ongoing: Cards here can't be destroyed.

On Reveal: Copy the card that costs the least from your opponent's hand into your hand. Give it +2 Power.

Ongoing: +2 Power for each time you discarded a card this game.

On Reveal: Swap the positions of the other two locations.

On Reveal: One of your other cards here with the lowest Power switches sides.

On Reveal: Return your other cards here to your hand. They cost 1 less next turn.

If this is in your hand after the turn, discard it.

Ongoing: Your highest-Power cards have +2 Power.

Ongoing: Players must play their first card here each turn. (if possible)

On Reveal: Move away all enemy cards played here this turn. (including unrevealed cards)

On Reveal: Discard an even-costed card from each player's hand.

Ongoing: Your adjacent locations with 2+ cards and no repeated Costs have +5 Power.

On Reveal: If the last card you played has an Ongoing, copy its text. (if able)

On Reveal: Move an enemy 1 or 2-Cost card to this location.

On Reveal: All cards cost a maximum of 4 until the end of next turn.

On Reveal: Bring back one of your discarded cards to this location.

On Reveal: Add the top card of your deck to this location.

Ongoing: Nothing can stop you from playing cards anywhere.

Ongoing: If any of your locations are empty, +5 Power.

On Reveal: Move the last enemy card played anywhere to this location.

On Reveal: If you're winning this location and this is your only card here, destroy all other locations.

If you played a card last turn, you can't play this.

I’m just not a fan. None of them resonate with me and it always breaks my heart when I get one. Cheers to those who love them!

Aero

On Reveal: Move the last enemy card played anywhere to this location.

Aero is one of my favorite cards in the game and she has so many great variants, but this one is definitely one of my least favorite. The way her face is drawn feels a bit off to me and the background isn’t very exciting.

Destroyer

On Reveal: Destroy your cards at other locations.

I’m a huge Dan Hipp fan, but this one is way too simple. Very basic drawing with not much going on around him. Definitely a skip compared to the other Destroyer variants out there!

The Thing

It's clobberin' time!

It might just be me, but the coloring on this one just seems off. Again, a very boring background around the character and nothing that lets The Thing drawing stand out from being different from its base version.

Spectrum

On Reveal: Give your Ongoing cards +2 Power.

I don’t actually dislike this variant, but it’s one of the weaker Spectrum variants. Very bland background, original suit and not very colorful compared to many of her other variants. A pass for sure (but get the other awesome Spectrum variants instead!)

All Peach Momoko Variants

After your opponent plays an Ongoing card here, remove its abilities.

On Reveal: Copy the card that costs the least from your opponent's hand into your hand. Give it +2 Power.

On Reveal: Destroy all enemy cards here that have 10 or more Power.

On Reveal: Copy the card that costs the most from your opponent's hand into your hand.

Peach Momoko never misses. Every variant is incredible. The way the characters are drawn, the choices of colors, the mixing of background and character, it’s all just perfect.

Red Skull

Ongoing: Enemy cards here have +2 Power.

It’s finally here! I’ve been waiting for this Fantasy Red Skull for months! Taking a character like Red Skull and giving him an epic armor and sword makes him just that much more menacing.

Carnage

On Reveal: Destroy your other cards here. +2 Power for each destroyed.

Speaking of menacing, this Carnage variant is another huge winner for me. They call this variant the ‘Conqueror’ as Carnage is standing over a defeated Knull, the god of Symbiotes. How cool is that!? Everyone should get this variant to strike fear into their opponents as they see you drop this epic variant on the board.

Daredevil

On turn 5, you get to see your opponent's plays before you make your own.

Daredevil definitely has some better variants, but this one is a personal pick for his awesome yellow suit. As mentioned above, I’m a huge fan of different suits/colors for characters and this is the only Daredevil variant that offers a completely different style than his original red suit!

Iceman

On Reveal: Give a card in your opponent's hand +1 Cost. (maximum 6)

This. Is. Perfection.
