Seems simple, right? You have a 1-cost card, play it here. Boom. Power. However, with this being a featured location, we could have a LOT more gameplay strategy than we think. So, let's dive into how we can manipulate Lake Hellas.
The Featured Location from July 25th, 2023 at 11pm EST to July 26th, 2023 at 11pm EST is Lake Hellas. As a featured location, it will have a 50% chance to appear in any ladder match. Now you must make a choice:
- Build INTO It
- Build AROUND It
- Ignore it
How to Build INTO it
Squirrel Girl
On Reveal: Add a 1-Power Squirrel to each other location.
Armor
Ongoing: Cards here can't
be destroyed.
Invisible Woman
Ongoing: Cards you play here are not revealed until the game ends.
Shanna
On Reveal: Add a random
1-Cost card to each location.
Ka-Zar
Ongoing: Your 1-Cost cards have +1 Power.
Ultron
On Reveal: Deploy four 2-Power Drones to each other location.
- Squirrels = Wide spread power if you choose to play into the Patriot/KaZar line. So, even if you're locked out of the lane, Squirrel Girl can get you there.
- Armor seems like a no-brainer as well if you want to stack in this lane too. We can expect to see a load of Killmongers during this time, so be ready.
- Invisible Woman may be my favorite play here. Hiding some surprise elements like Debri and Squirrel Girl behind it could result in a power swing if you're playing a Patriot build of any sort.
- Shanna is also fun here because she can be dropped on turn 6 without priority and nearly guarantee the point swing you may need for victory.
- KaZar beefs up your 1-cost cards over theirs...so there's that.
- Ultron could be the long reaching victor here too that many players strive for. Ignore Hellas and then BAM #dronestomp.
How to Build AROUND it
Elektra
On Reveal: Destroy an enemy 1-Cost card here.
Killmonger
On Reveal: Destroy ALL
1-Cost cards.
Goose
Ongoing: Nobody can play cards that cost 4, 5, or 6 here.
Jean Grey
Ongoing: Players must play their first card here each turn. (if possible)
Polaris
On Reveal: Move an enemy
1 or 2-Cost card to this location.
- Elektra will be less common, but Killmonger will be everywhere. Eliminating 1-cost cards, probably on turn 6, will be the biggest counter of the day.
- Goose is a unique call to play in a separate lane which may force your opponent to go against their game plan and shift their 1-cost cards to compete into the Goose lane. Goose = Defense strategy today.
- Jean Grey should mix up a lot of the benefits of this location whether you choose to play her into the Lake Hellas lane, or out of it. This may force your opponent to play their 1-cost cards elsewhere, lose the bonus, and shift their strategy on the fly.
- Polaris on turn 6 is going to be an annoying...but fun move today. Shift the boosted power into a less powerful lane and that could be all the match needs to swing 4-8 cubes your way.
When all else fails, destroy it.
Scarlet Witch
On Reveal: Replace this location with a new one.
Magik
On Reveal: Replace this location with 'Limbo'. Doesn't work
after turn 5.
Storm
On Reveal: Flood this location. Next turn is the last turn cards can
be played here.
Rhino
On Reveal: Ruin this location. (remove its ability)
Legion
On Reveal: Replace each other location with this one.
- Running either Scarlet Witch, Magik, Storm, Rhino or Legion will switch the location, therefore eliminating the ability entirely.
Featured Deck - Hellas Fellas
- I'm taking the best of Zoo and Hellas-Defense in this Patriot/Zoo list.
- Playing defense with Jean Grey and gaining surprise defense from Invisible Woman protects your deck from their damage while taking the perks of the location two-fold due to Patriot, Kazar, Blue Marvel & Mystique.
- Jeff will help us to play out fo the Jean Grey lane as well when all else fails and give us defense against the newest card to the game, Legion.
- The rest of the deck is a pretty straightforward Patriot/Zoo combo. Put out a load of tokens and No Ability cards and then buff them up.
