Who Needs a Stupid Mansion Anyway
After being evicted out of the Avengers Mansion for demolishing it for the third time this month alone (see Ruined Mansion), the Young Avengers decided to find someplace else to be their headquarters. They ended up choosing Bishop Publishing, an old building property of Kate’s late father. It was definitely a fixer-upper, but It became the home of the Young Avengers ever since.
On this Wednesday, the 28th, Clubhouse will be the newest location to grace Marvel Snap with its beautiful presence. Also, it will be the Hot Location for the entire day. So get cozy with your favorite heroic pajama and let’s have a look at the location.
Fill this Location to get +1 power to your cards at other locations. Seems easy enough right? You might be wondering if the effect can be repeated by filling the Clubhouse location repeatedly, right? I’m sorry to say but it can’t be done, it's a one time effect per game. Similar to The Raft which also has a “fill this location” demand. The difference being that the Clubhouse isn’t a race, you can save its effect to the end of the game in order to get more power (if nothing changes the Clubhouse).
So how Impactful is Clubhouse? Not a lot. Basically in the best case scenario, it’s a +4 to the other locations. We already have Baxter Building which does the same thing without any convoluted condition. I’ve won and lost some games due to Baxter Building’s effect, however I never felt like it was fundamental to get its bonus in order to win.
So, how do we benefit from Clubhouse? We need a deck that likes to play a ton of cards and can fill the location on the last turn. I can think of a couple of options.
The most obvious path that comes to mind is a Zoo styled deck. We play a ton of 1-cost cards, play our powerful buffers like Blue Marvel, Ka-zar and the lore-friendly Marvel Boy. Finish the game with a 1-drop and Gilgamesh on the Clubhouse for a huge power play
There is a second more annoying variant of Zoo. It relies mostly on a core of three cards: Patriot, Sandman, and Ultron. Ultron’s On-Reveal at the very end of the game pretty much guarantees that you will get the most out of the Clubhouse.
Silver Surfer would also be pretty good on Clubhouse. You can set up the clubhouse with an early Brood over there and save the last spot for the last turn. Sebastian Shaw would truly appreciate the extra power provided by the Clubhouse.
And now for an evil playline, which is something I love. If everyone is trying to fill their board up in order to benefit from Clubhouse, you can absolutely help them out by filling up their locations with junk. Cards like Viper, Debrii, White Widow, Goblins and even Annihilus could remove your opponent’s option and lock down the game for you to win.
There is one last card that could be extremely interesting with Clubhouse. Captain Marvel moves at the very end of the game, after everything else has been played out. If you get her on board and leave a single slot for her on Clubhouse, she can fly there without any worries and get you a last minute power up that will win you the game.
I think this is enough strategies to help you out. Shall we see some decks?
Dualgloves Day One Clubhouse Decks
Good Ol' Kazoo
Whenever Zoo shows up I tend to recommend a deck like this to help the new players out. Even without the new cards this deck can be potent enough to win. Prioritize getting your scalers like Angela and Bishop on the board so they can grow. Play your big ongoing cards on turn 4 and 5. Finish with your 1-Cost cards for a powerful finisher, remember to fill the Clubhouse at the end of the game on turn 6. We usually play the 1 drops last to avoid the villainous Killmonger.
Genetically Engineered Kree-Cockroach-Squirrel Super Zoo
This is basically an Advanced Zoo, we got some fancy Series 5 cards that elevate this deck into a force that puts down a ton of power and isn’t afraid of Killmonger thanks to Caiera. Quite easy to play, fill the board with your cheap cards, get them powered up and win. Prioritize getting Marvel Boy on the board and three one drops since his power up happens every turn.
Tubular Dude!
Just the newest version of Surfer that is all the rage with these cool new 3-Drops we got recently. Set up your Brood and Broodlings or perhaps your Absorbing-Man broodlings on Clubhouse for an easy activation for the last turn. This deck is particularly good against the Zoo if they don’t find themselves protected by Caiera.
Toxic Pogo
Plan your moves carefully because this beast of a deck is tricky to maneuver. Set up your cards to bounce them back, get your Wolf big and strong and finally devastate your enemies with a jacked up Ajax while afflicting all your opponent's side of the board with negative power and junk. This deck has been all the rage over Junk aficionados such as myself. It requires some finesse but you should do fine. Try to fill their Clubhouse side early for a very disappointing activation on their side of the board.
Pocket Sand!
I wanted to feature a deck with Captain Marvel and this is the best one I found. This deck banks mostly on Sandman’s powerful limitation. If you are playing against a deck that relies on playing a ton of cards on the last turn the game is pretty much over after a turn 5 sandman. Like the decks before, keep in mind when you are going to fill the Clubhouse, keep in mind that Captain Marvel could do it for you at the end of the game if she sees that it would win you the game.
Afterthoughts
I really don’t mind Clubhouse being added to the game, it’s a low impact location but it can be used to win you those marginal win games. It will be a rare location, meaning that it won’t appear too often after its inauguration day. I like when new locations don’t have a way to completely ruin my gameplans so Clubhouse is a win in my book. Good Job, Young Avenger!
As always, I hope that I could help you get ready for this location. If you have any questions, feedback or something else to say, feel free to leave a comment, I always read them all. Do you think the decks I listed will work on Clubhouse? Do you have any strategy you'd like to share? Let me know!
This is all for today, I’ll catch you on the next one!
