We Can Rebuild it… Again…
Okay it’s getting silly now. This is like the third time this stupid mansion has been destroyed this week. Is there a Marvel rule that every mansion is to be destroyed as many times as possible? Tuesday was Charles’ School, the day before was Sanctum Sanctorum. How are we going to save the world if we spend half our time as heroes rebuilding mansions?
Why, hello there you beautiful Snapper! This Wednesday the 14th the beautiful Avengers Mansion will be destroyed and join Marvel Snap as a location. It will also be a hot location for the entire day on the regular ladder. So, you’d do better to get ready for it and find decks that synergise with it.
Destroyed Mansion… What do you do?
Whenever Destroyed Mansion shows up, two different things happen: both sides get a Rock on their side of the board and a Vibranium on their hand.
Wow they even fortified the place with Vibranium and the mansion is somehow still destroyed every week. What do we do with our beautiful Vibranium ore and our useless Rock? Something interesting about those two cards is that they both are 1-Cost. Meaning that we could run a Zoo style deck and take advantage of both our minerals. Cards like Ka-zar, Blue Marvel, and our newcomer Marvel Boy would do great to buff up our rocks and stones.
If you don’t enjoy playing with rocks, you could try gifting it to your opponent. If they already have a stone in a location, a second stone would be extremely detrimental to their chances of winning the match. We could send it over with Viper. If we are going with Viper, it’s best if we play a full Junk Deck. Do you enjoy those? We can slot in cards like Debrii, White Widow and some goblins for good measure. Cannonball is a powerful last turn swing that can potentially win any location.
Or perhaps you fancy some extravagant combo using power reduction on your rock to tip it into the negative points for you to give it to your opponent with Annihilus. We could try Yellow Jacket, Typhoid Mary or Hazmat to reduce the power of the Rock as preparation for Annihilus.
Since we talked about these Negative Nancies, I can’t let you go without mentioning the king of being negative, Ajax. He truly loves infliction and he would be extremely happy to participate in any deck that includes Hazmat.
Death decks would also enjoy the extra fuel to burn. I don’t necessarily mean a full Destroy Deck, there are awesome decks that focus on playing cheap token cards like Squirrel Girl or Shanna to reduce the cost of Mockingbird. After she is on the field, they destroy those tokens with Killmonger or Carnage and get an extremely cheap death to play later. I just don’t know the name of this style of deck. Mockingdeath, Deathbird? If you know, please tell me.
I think this is enough to get you started, let me sort you out with some nice decks.
Dualgloves Day 1 Destroyed Mansion Decks
Good Ol' Kazoo
Don’t have all those fancy new cards? Just starting on Marvel Snap? Don’t you worry I got you. This deck is potent, and affordable. Prioritize getting Angela and Bishop on the board so they can grow. Play your big ongoing cards on turn 4 and 5. Finish with your 1-Cost cards for a powerful finisher. We usually play the 1 drops last to avoid the dreadful killmonger that is so prevalent on lower series games.
Genetically Engineered Kree-Cockroach-Squirrel Super Zoo
What a mouthful, right? This is the creation of my colleague and secret best friend Quiksilvur. He made a wonderful article all about Marvel Boy, Go read it here if you haven't yet. This deck is quite simple to play and quite powerful, play your cheap cards, get them powered up and win. Prioritize getting Marvel Boy on the board as quickly as possible if you have cards for him to buff. Every turn with the Boy on the board, means more powerful 1 drops.
Cloggers
This deck is not as easy to play as the ones above. If you like ruining your opponents plans, you will greatly enjoy this one. The idea is to take away all the options of your opponent. Fill their board up with junk and limit where they can play their power. Titania is evil in this deck because her in conjunction with another clog card can fill a location for your opponent and allow you to bring her back to your side of the board with a simple last turn play. Just be careful with destroy decks, they eat all the garbage up and your plans won’t go so well.
What You Gon' Do With All That Junk?
I hope your opponent is ready to receive all your junk. Once again we are clogging up our opponents options but this deck is quite different. Play your annoying cards, replay them with Grandmaster. If for some reason you can’t send over your Junk, just whisk it away with Sersi, hopefully she’ll turn them into something useful. A very sneaky play is using Yellow Jacket and Annihilus on turn 5 to catch your opponent off guard with your negative rocks.
Is It a Bird? Is It a Death?
A counter deck through and through. Take advantage of some hefty discounts on Death and Mockingbird by getting tokens on the board and destroying them, gladiator also helps with the destruction. Also, try to ruin your opponents plans with your counter cards. Shadow King reigns supreme against a ton of decks that feature Cassandra, Thena or other scaler cards. Also, no one ever expects the Lady Deathstrike. She is amazing at discounting Death while also ruining your opponents plans.
Toxic Pogo
Plan your moves carefully because this beast of a deck is tricky to maneuver. Set up your cards to bounce them back, get your Wolf big and strong and finally devastate your enemies with a jacked up Ajax while afflicting all your opponent's side of the board with negative power and junk. Devious!
Afterthoughts
Destroyed Mansion is here to stay as another card that shoves something on the board but at least it gives a nice reward for it with a nice vibranium for you to play where you see fit. I truly dread the game where Destroyed Mansion, Central park and Savage Land show up to practically fill the board. Hopefully that won’t happen often… Right?
As always, I hope that I could help you figure out this location and get ready for it. If you have any questions, feedback or something else to say, feel free to leave a comment, I always read them all. Do you think the decks will be good on Destroyed Mansion’s Hot Location day? Do you have any secret strats? Let me know!
This is all for today, I’ll catch you on the next one!
