World Tree
Is it actually a tree? Well, yes, but no. It is represented as a tree with branches, leaves, and everything else that a tree might have, but it’s an energy field that houses and supports all 10 realms on its branches. Which realms? And what can we find there? I’m no expert on Norse mythology, but I have a local who could tell us all about it.
It's always nice to hear from Malekith; such a cool guy. He does tours every Tuesday.
So yeah, it's a very important tree. If something were to happen to it, who knows what the consequences would be? So take care of it and don’t let any pests invade it. We, as residents of Midgard, should take care of our beautiful World Tree.
Back to Snap
Yggdrasil is coming this Wednesday, the 27th! Like it's the norm by now, its debut will be her hot location day. So get ready to prune and fertilize our big tree. Let’s see what it does on Marvel Snap:
The roots are strong! At the end of every turn, all cards in other locations will receive +1 power. If Yggdrasil blesses your games with its presence, you’d better take advantage of its power or be prepared to tree climb a long distance against your opponent.
A location that is quite similar but different is Muir Island; whenever it shows up, snappers go crazy trying to get as many cards there without clogging themselves to get more +1 stacks than your opponent. Imagine how crazy the games will go with Muir Island and Yggdrasil together.
So, how do we benefit more than our opponent when Yggdrasil shows up? Why, by playing cards that like having extra power. But that’s like every single card in the game right? Let’s see some cards that benefit further from having some extra boost.
Double-Uppers
Double-Uppers would be my best bet. They come in all shapes and sizes. Let me list the ones that I like.
Deadpool seems okay, but he’ll usually be back in your hand at the end of your turn. I would say that the other destroy cards, like X-23 and Wolverine, would be better.
Human Torch seems much better at scaling since he can get Yggdrasil’s extra kick every turn if you move him well enough. Dagger could also grow huge with the help of all the cards your opponents will be playing while lured by Yggdrasil.
Daken is a card that is forgotten by all, but if you like him and have a cool enough list, it could work.
Beta Ray Bill is already a big guy; imagine with some buffs.
Does Scarlet Spider count as a Double-Upper? I don't know, but I always try to make him happen because I love the character.
Black Panther does the job, but he seems a bit too costly to get much improvement from Yggdrasil. He would work if you could somehow play him early.
Last but not least, Iron Man is extremely powerful and would turn every +1 into +2, even when they belong to the cards you played before him.
I believe doubling extra power would be the best way to win with Yggdrasil, but I’m not a single-strategy chump. Let’s see something else.
Something Else
I can see three cards from the surfer archetype that could greatly benefit from Yggdrasil. Sebastian Shaw is the best buff receiver in the game. Brood is three cards in a single turn, and if you’re lucky enough, you can follow them up with Absorbing Man to get 2 broodlings that start at 4 power and go bigger every turn with Ygg’s help.
Zoo is a deck that, at its core, plays many cards and occupies a lot of the board relatively early. So get your 1-Drops on the field and let them grow big and strong as an oak. Finish with your buffers. You know the drill.
We can go ahead and look at some decks. Just remember that Shadow King doesn’t exist, and he can’t chop away your buffs like they are fragile bonsai.
Yggdrasil Decks
Frigga Move
If I were to try hard, this is the deck I would use. Frigga should be flavorfully great with Yggdrasil, and she will get you another copy of your growing human-shaped torch. Another thing Frigga can do is reliably give you a second Madame Web. Move your cards, make big power, and bounce them back in hand if you think they need protection from your opponent’s tech.
All the Hammers
Sensitive question. Did you get Eitri? If so, test him out on this. Beta Ray is your biggest guy, and will be quite happy with Yggrasil’s support. Double or even triple your hammers with the help of our cards that re-trigger On-Reveals.
Oatmeal
I’m always looking at our community's creations, and this is one of them. Shout out to Kiernimbus. They made a comprehensive guide on it that I could never do better. So, follow the deck link and thank him for the help! Many of the cards he uses in this list benefit quite greatly from the World Tree.
Surfing on Toxic Waters
Powerful, but a dog marking its territory might beat it. This is the tried and tested Toxic Surfer deck. It loses to Cosmo and Alioth, but it wins against everything else. Set up your guys to get buffed and do some Wong shenanigans with Hazmat and or Surfer.
Afterthoughts
Yggdrasil is another win in my book! I love locations that help players reach a taller ceiling in terms of power or cards played, and the World Tree doesn’t disappoint. Also, it has no way of ruining my winning chances like some locations do when they show up, which is a big plus. I hope this was an interesting read to you and that I helped you prepare for the location. Let’s climb the tree and get some cubes!
But what about you? In the comments, tell me about your experiences with the location. Did you like it? Do you have any unique games in it?
As always, I’ll catch you the next one!
