Hello fellow Snappers!
My name is Drewberry and I've been creating Marvel Snap content since BETA! It’s NEW SEASON TIME! Loki for All Time is the September Season for Marvel Snap and with it, comes our new Season Pass Card: LOKI
The God of Mischief has finally found his way into Marvel Snap and he’s bringing the mischief, the chaos and even a potential NEW archetype?!
Hearthstone players will be familiar with Thief Priest or Burgle Rogue and I think Loki is establishing a foundation where this could become a new archetype in Marvel Snap. Stealing your opponents cards like Cable, or copying their cards with White Queen. There is a base foundation for Burgle-style decks in Snap and Loki seems to have the best effect for it. I think a few cards being added, like ‘x amount of power cards your opponent has in your hand’ could bring this archetype to life.
LOKI himself has a fantastic statline, and wild effect. At first glance, it looks great, you could swap 6-7 cards and get 6-7 energy savings. But the RNG is immense. You have to hope that your opponent is running good cards, then you have to hope you get the cards that actually synergize with each other, and finally, you need to hope that you have enough time and energy to play them. Not all these things need to happen to return decent value from Loki but the constraints are still present and will likely hinder Loki’s viability due to the inconsistencies.
That said, Loki looks to me like one of the more fun cards to have been released in Marvel Snap in quite some time. I’m really looking forward to using my opponents cards against them in the most chaotic and mischievous ways possible.
Let's find out if Loki is a SNAP or PASS.
Week of 9/5 - Spotlights
Loki Tips & Mechanics:
- Loki Swaps 1:1. If you have 4 cards in hand, you will receive 4 cards back.
- Your cards that are swapped do NOT go into the opponent's deck. They are also not discarded or destroyed, they vanish.
- Starting deck = Queued Decklist. Thanos Infinity Stones & High Evolutionary Evolved Cards will NOT be available for a swap with Loki’s ability.
- Quinjet + Loki will NOT bring 2 cost cards to 0. Loki’s ability is a 1-time activation, Quinjet's ongoing ability occurs, and it will not bring cards below 1 cost. (minimum of 1)
- UNIQUE replacements. Loki will not duplicate swapped cards, they will all be unique.
Loki Theorycrafted Decklists!
THIS IS THE ONE! It’s got all the deck thinning options with: Agatha, Chavez, Jubilee & Crystal. We’re going to find Loki, Agatha will play him and we will profit. Jokes aside, I really like the consistency upside that this deck provides but it is all in on Loki, so if we get a suboptimal hand from our opponent… we might be in trouble.
What if Loki accepted Thanos' offer to join forces during the Infinity War? Well it might look like this in Marvel Snap! Here we use the Infinity Stones to cycle through our deck whilst keeping a high volume of cards in hand. Wincons included are: Cycle into Loki for a big hand swap, use the stones to cycle Lockjaw & buff Angela + Bishop, OR use those high cost cards to steal slower matchups.
This shell seems to be the go to for a lot of players when deckbuilding with Loki, and rightfully so. The Agents of Shield are great at keeping your hand full which is ideal for a full effect Loki. Backup plan is to lean heavy into a turn 5 Devil Dino and turn 6 Nick Fury summon or Helicarrier summon. I don’t love this game plan but it’s nice to have an alternative wincon to the classic Big Hand lists with Loki.
In conclusion, LOKI, the season pass card, looks like a really fun addition to Marvel Snaps Collection. Seems unlikely that a Loki list ends up at the top of the meta but there’s a lot of upside with a wild card such as Loki and I’m excited to try him out. Season passes provide a lot of return value so if you’re even somewhat interested in Loki, this is an easy.. SNAP!
