Second Dinner has unveiled a new Development roadmap; we will break it all down and review it!
COMING SOON
High Voltage
The High Voltage limited-time mode is launching in just a couple of days on October 16th. We got some additional video footage of the mode, which looks extremely fast-paced. Your starting hand is just two cards, but you draw two additional cards each turn. You will get between 2 and 5 additional energy each turn, and both players will get the same amount.
Certain cards and locations will be banned, and it will be the first Marvel Snap mode that will be different enough to develop its own meta game. Cards that aren't especially powerful in Snap's existing modes, like Ebony Maw, Loki, Havok, Adam Warlock, and Sasquatch, will play very differently in High Voltage and could be powerhouses in the new mode.
We currently know three cards will be banned, but remember that nothing is officially confirmed, and there could be more.
Also, the mode won't include an extensive list of locations. Some are for gameplay reasons, others simply because they reference turns that don't exist in the mode.
High Voltage looks great and different enough from Snap to justify its existence without losing sight of what makes Snap great—snappy gameplay.
Collector's Vault
High Voltage brings us new gameplay, but we're also getting a new cosmetic feature soon, the Collector's Vault. This new shop will appear in the game for a limited time. Past bundle variants will be available for between 1400 and 2500 gold. The prices don't seem to correlate with the price of the bundles they're in, but rather how popular the variant is.
Snap Variants got us some great additional info via the Official Marvel Snap discord by asking some follow-up questions.
Deadpool’s Diner
Deadpool's Diner is coming back for Thanksgiving! The exact dates and rewards are unknown. Given all of the datamined cards that aren't scheduled to appear in Spotlights, it's safe to assume we'll get a new card like we did last time (Cassandra Nova), but it's unconfirmed.
Anniversary Bundles
In addition to the good value/cost Deadpool cartoon anniversary bundle, we've found an unconfirmed webshop bundle scheduled to coincide with the anniversary of the webshop. It features a nice Iron Man variant and 1500 credits for just $3! Remember, this is still unconfirmed; it's only been found by data mining thus far.
IN DEVELOPMENT
Character Mastery
Character Mastery is back! Second Dinner was surprised by how disappointed people were when they announced that Character Mastery was being scrapped. Thankfully, they've found a way to push forward with it. Given that we've seen character-specific rewards tracks in the video, it appears that Second Dinner didn't have to stray too far from their initial vision for Character Mastery. It felt like they were holding back assets from character albums since we always seemed to get alternate versions of the characters as reaction sets from them. Second Dinner smartly avoided blowing assets that were initially meant for character mastery. This is great news, as I feared we would get a pared-down version of character mastery because of the technical limitations they encountered and some of the assets being blown on character albums.
Super Premium Season Pass
Currently, the season pass has three tiers: the free tier, the $10 tier, and the $15 tier. The highest-cost tier, Season Pass Premium+, is being replaced. This seems like an easy slam dunk—the extra $5 doesn't get you anything worthwhile. It just advances you up the track, which isn't helpful to the most committed players in the game—presumably the target market for a feature like this. I always buy the season pass and would happily pay for a higher-tier pass if it felt worth the extra money. Also, did Second Dinner tease extra deck slots through this?
Album Preview & Wishlist
Information about this feature is scarce, but I've been asking for the ability to access an album straight from a variant contained within that album since it first dropped.
New limited-time mode
In data mining, we kept finding assets and names for additional modes. At first, we thought Second Dinner was having trouble deciding between them. Instead, it looks like we're getting multiple limited-time modes! Deadpool's Diner and High Voltage are already known, but we also have files related to Shuri's Lab and Snap Packs in the game. Instead of being an alternative acquisition model, Snap Packs may be part of a future limited-time mode.
IN CONCEPT
Draft Mode
We knew Draft Mode would take some time to develop, so it's not surprising that it appears in this tier. Here's what Second Dinner has to say about their design philosophies for a potential draft mode:
“We believe SNAP Draft should rely on a trio of pillars:
- Clear and exciting deckbuilding goals
- Fun gameplay that feels unique from constructed
- Highly replayable”
Draft, if done right, could be the ideal way to play Marvel Snap. Their philosophy on the mode seems on point so far.
New Game Boards
Last, Second Dinner teased that additional types of cosmetics were being explored. We don't know the breadth of what they are exploring, but we know additional game boards are among them! Below is a cool game board that looks like it could be part of a Savage Land theme or possibly an Avengers 1,000,000 BC season.
Also, one last tidbit of news: Misery will be getting a small buff, so bear that in mind if you're on the fence about getting her before she leaves Spotlights.
Head's up! In next week's OTA we'll be giving Misery a bump up.
