Now that the season theme for May has finally been confirmed as the multiverse-hopping eXiles, let's look into the future and try to predict what the remainder of 2024 holds for Snap fans.
May - eXiles
May will be eXiles season with Blink as the season pass card
Confidence level: Confirmed
The eXiles are a team of superheroes from various realities that team up to solve multiversal problems, ensure timeline integrity, and occasionally save all of the universes at once. The members are drawn from different realities. It can get quite confusing if you're a beginner to Marvel's different realities. In short, the main Marvel reality is Earth-616. This is the reality of the primary continuity in Marvel Comics, though officially, it is also the designation of the MCU now. One of the most beloved alternate universe storylines is the Age of Apocalypse. Professor X was killed before he could found the X-Men, leading to a dystopia ruled by Apocalypse. Blink was one of the breakout characters of this storyline. This reality, Earth-295, is where the Blink of the eXiles comes from, while Earth-616 Blink only appeared in a few issues before she was killed off.
Namora, Sage, Nocturne, and Sasquatch are the other eXiles characters getting Marvel Snap cards.
June - Eternals
Confidence level: Very High, corroborated by datamined files
We have exclusive confirmation that June will be Eternals season! Gilgamesh is currently tabbed in the datamines as the season pass card.
Where Eternals season gets interesting is which other characters will be included. The current list of Eternals character information in the datamines exceeds the number of cards required for a season.
Not counting Gilgamesh, we have spotted files for Ikaris, Arishem, Makkari, Phastos, Sersi, Thena, and Ajak. Ajak is an interesting case because the primary villain in the first Deadpool movie is an unrelated character named Ajax. Furthermore, Ajax the Greater is an alternative name for Ajak. Currently, the game has an Ajax file but no reference to Ajak. It seems surprising that the character portrayed by Salma Hayek in the MCU won't be one of the characters included in the Eternals season.
Based on the prominence of MCU characters, I am guessing the four Eternals we get will be Sersi, Ikaris, Thena, and Phastos.
However, the number of Eternals in the game files includes Arishem and Makkari, the latter of which already has datamined art. Did Second Dinner design extra Eternals with the eventual goal of cutting down to just the most interesting designs? Could this be the month that they shock us by doing an extra multi-card release? Many players have been hoping for a larger card drop at some point, especially if some of the cards are added to Series 3.
It's hard to say what season pass variants we will get from an Eternals season since the MCU Eternals movie is so self-contained. Perhaps they'll focus on a featured artist rather than any connection to the Eternals.
July - Deadpool & Wolverine
Confidence level: High
Deadpool & Wolverine is slated for a July 26 release date. There is a chance this season is pushed to August to align with that release date, but it feels like a safe bet that we're getting a summer Deadpool season.
The safest bets for new cards in the Deadpool season are Cassandra Nova, Hydra Bob, Copycat, Gwenpool, and Ajax (if this is not an Eternals card). Cassandra Nova was added to the game files in the last patch. Since Emma Corrin was recently cast as the character in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie, she will certainly be included in the season. I'm also guessing that she will be the season pass card. Cassandra Nova is Professor X’s incredibly powerful twin (it's complicated), so I think she will also be given a very powerful card. Perhaps she'll have something to do with mass destruction or mass lockdown. Gwenpool is another great candidate for the season pass card since she's quite popular, and there is a lot of great Gwenpool art out there to draw from for variants. It will be interesting to see what a Copycat card does. We already have many “copying” abilities in the game (Morph, Mystique, Absorbing Man, Iron Lad, Moon Girl), and it seems difficult to come up with another interesting way to capture the flavor of her character.
Other possibilities for cards in this season are Bullseye, who was once rumored to be a villain in the movie, and Random, who has been in the datamines for a long time and already has a lot of datamined art.
I would expect Deadpool and Wolverine variants in the season pass.
August- Young Avengers
Confidence level: Medium
The files have made it clear that we'd eventually get a Young Avengers season. With Kate Bishop finally being added to the game files, it seems like it will be sooner rather than later. Kate Bishop is one of the more prominent Marvel heroes who still doesn't have a card. She has appeared in the MCU, played by Hailee Steinfeld, and has had several great comic series.
The cards we'll be getting seem pretty clear-cut. Kate Bishop is most likely to be the season pass card, alongside Hulkling, Viv Vision, Marvel Boy, and Speed. It will be interesting to see how closely connected, if at all, the card abilities will be to their “old Avengers” counterparts.
Jeff the Baby Land Shark, first appeared in West Coast Avengers alongside Kate so that he could be one of the season pass variants. Maybe we'll get a new classic Hawkeye variant as well. Gwenpool was also a team member of Kate's, so she could pop up here if she's not used in the Deadpool season. We could also see Wiccan and Hulkling involved with the Young Avengers season as they have also been found in the datamines or they could be saved for an Agatha related season.
September - Spider-Verse
Confidence level: Low
This one is much more speculative. We know another Spider-Verse film is coming sometime this year, and I think Second Dinner will want to celebrate that, even if they are a few months apart. None of the following characters currently appear anywhere in the data files. Still, they've all become popular enough from the Spider-Verse films that they seem like inevitable Snap card candidates. Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Punk, Spot, and The Prowler would make a good core of a season. Perhaps a newly prominent character from the upcoming film could take that last spot. It would be nice to see Spot or The Prowler as the season pass card if there is a Spider-Verse season upcoming, as there are fewer opportunities for villains to headline a season, given heroes outnumber them.
Season pass variants of Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Ham could spread the love across more spider characters. Miles and Gwen have both had quite a few pass variants.
October - Halloween/Agatha season (It Was Halloween All Along!)
Confidence level: High
Last year, Second Dinner leaned into spooky season, and I expect them to do the same this year. The Agatha Harkness Disney+ series is scheduled to debut in October, and I expect the team to lean into that as well. Quite a few yet-to-appear “scary” cards have been in the data files for ages. Perhaps Second Dinner had a plan for these villains all along! Halloween seems like the perfect time to debut Mephisto, whether or not he keeps his currently datamined ability. Goblin Queen, Surtur, Witchfire, and Gorr the God Butcher all seem creepy enough to sneak into a Halloween-themed season. What could Madelyne Prior’s (a.k.a. the Goblin Queen) ability be? The current ability that Selene has, which gives a boost to the two Goblin Cards, would have been perfect. Perhaps Maddy will generate her own goblins? Wiccan and Hulkling are rumored to appear in the Agatha Harkness: Coven of Chaos series, so keep those two in mind if they're unused by November. If some of the above characters are destined for other seasons, we could even see the introduction of Dormammu or Fin Fang Foom, two of the most anticipated villains yet to get their own cards.
Agatha should be one of the season pass variants. Someone else Halloween-ish, like Ghost Rider, could be the second one. Otherwise, it could be one of last year's Bloodstone season cards. Also, it would be interesting for Snap to lean into Agatha Harkness season somehow. How about a 24-hour Ego hot location so every deck is an Agatha deck?
November - New Warriors
Confidence level: Low
Firestar will finally join as a part of a New Warriors season in November. Firestar was scheduled to come out as a part of the Hellfire season. She has since totally disappeared from the game files. She made a lot of sense in a Hellfire season, given her role late in the Krakoan X-Men era. The next most logical place for her to be introduced would be in a New Warriors-themed season. Namora is already being used in the eXiles season, so I'm not sure if Namorita will make the cut as a card, but there's still Night Thrasher and Speedball from the classic 90s lineup. Later members like Slapstick and the Scarlet Spider (a.k.a. Ben Reilly) could make cool cards. The dev team has said they're open to characters like Ben Reilly getting their own cards even though the character is technically already represented in a Spider-Man variant.
New Warriors would also be a good choice for a season theme since favorite Snap characters like Debrii, Squirrel Girl, and Darkhawk have been members, meaning planning out additional season pass variants would be easy.
December
Confidence level: low
There are plenty of leftover characters in the datamines that have no clear seasonal home. Silver Sable is a pretty cool character that has ties to Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Nightcrawler. She has her own team, but it seems doubtful the individual members of the Wild Pack would make it into the game. Perhaps we could get an assassins-themed season with Bullseye and Silver Sable.
Some X-Men villain season also seems possible since the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and Mutant Liberation Front members Toad and Stryfe are in the data files. Pyro hasn't been found in the files, but he's a popular character and could fit into a season with a theme like this.
Night Nurse refers to a classic Marvel character that has been revitalized in the last couple of decades. Rachel McAdams portrayed Christine Palmer in the Doctor Strange MCU films. In the Netflix Marvel shows, Rosario Dawson’s character, Claire Temple, was modeled after Night Nurse. Snap could go in either direction with the character and introduce her in a Doctor Strange-themed or Defenders-themed season.
Otherwise, we’re left with a few oddball characters who do not have obvious homes. Maybe some are merely placeholders like J. Jonah Jameson and Uncle Ben appear to be.
The far, far future! Quick hit predictions/wish list / just for fun guesses
2024 will include
- 2099 season, with various characters from the 2099 universe.
- Ultimate season with characters from Marvel's current ongoing Ultimate comics.
- Mojo-verse season featuring long-anticipated characters such as Longshot, Shatter Star, and Spiral.
- Symbiote season with many new symbiotes like Scream, Anti-Venom, Phage, and Zzzxx.
- Fantastic Four season featuring Franklin, Valeria Richards, H.E.R.B.I.E, and Molecule Man.
- Cards for our favorite non-human characters like Miss Minutes, Lockheed, and Lucky the Pizza Dog.
- Banshee, Siryn, and Black Tom Cassidy in March 2025 for St. Patrick's Day.
I would love to see many characters not mentioned in this article added to the game. New movies and TV shows will also affect the character set. Whatever the future of Marvel Snap holds, it will be a wild ride!
