HOW TO APPLY
So, how does one participate in such a fantastic tournament? Last year, along with its partners Battle Arena and Snap Clash, Snap.Fan hosted a series of events held from February to August, giving direct seats to the final event. These were the events held monthly by the three organizations, which gave out 53 direct invites for the SFWC.
Snap.Fan
- The Snap.Fan Open was held monthly, giving out four SFWC invites to the four highest placing non-qualifiers, and resulted in 24 total qualifiers.
Battle Arena
- The bimonthly Battle Arena Swiss events gave out one SFWC invite to the highest-placing non-qualifier, resulting in 14 total qualifiers.
- Battle Arena had a monthly leaderboard where players earned points based on winning Daily pop-up tournaments and placing well in Battle Arenas. The Top 16 players on the monthly leaderboard qualified for a Leaderboard Qualifier, where the winner received an SFWC invite, resulting in 5 total qualifiers.
Snap Clash
- The monthly Snap Clash Open gave out one SFWC invite to the event winner, resulting in 5 total qualifiers.
- Snap Clash had a monthly leaderboard where players earned points by winning Daily pop-up tournaments and placing well in the Snap Clash Open. The Top 16 players on the monthly leaderboard qualified for a Leaderboard Qualifier, where the winner received an SFWC invite, resulting in 5 total qualifiers.
The Snap.Fan World Championship is a tournament where you must apply to participate. If you are one of the 53 players with a direct invite, you will automatically be accepted into the 64-player lineup once you apply.
If you have not yet qualified for the event directly, you still have a chance to make it into the lineup. If you have reached the Top Cut in the Snap.Fan Open, Battle Arena, or Snap Clash Open, you will be awarded SFWC Points based on your eventual finish, adjusted by how many Swiss Rounds there were before the Top Cut.
Even if you haven’t won an event, having a lot of SFWC Points gives you a leg up on other applicants. After first considering all the players who have direct invites, applicants with the most SFWC Points will be entered into the SFWC player lineup until 64 players are reached.
THE RANKED LADDER MATTERS
So, if you never participated in an SFWC event, does that mean you can’t participate in the March event?
No!
Since the SFWC has admittedly been on an extended break since the end of August, we’ve seen the emergence of new big names and new talent, and we want to give them a chance to play in the SFWC. To that end, Marvel SNAP’s Ranked Ladder will finally have a tangible reward.
If you apply to the SFWC as a Top 5 finisher on the February Leaderboard when February ends, you will receive direct qualification into the SFWC. For players with SFWC Points who are just outside qualification spots, you can earn SFWC Points by finishing at least within the Top 100 for February. Tiebreakers for SFWC Points will also be broken using your Leaderboard position. The point structure is as follows.
Remember, even if you finish in the Top 5, you must still apply to the SFWC for your invite to be counted. Considering all the possible direct invitees from SFWC events and the February Leaderboard, at least 6 players will be invited to the SFWC based on their SFWC Points standing. However, that number is likely to increase - so apply! A snapshot of the leaderboard will be taken on March 1, 00:00 AM CET, or February 29, 6:00 PM EST, for which all Leaderboard positions will be taken.
That sums up all the necessary information about signing up for the SFWC. For all the participants of the SFWC and the players who will still be grinding this month to secure their spot, we wish you good luck.
