The Forgotten Cards of Marvel Snap
Marvel Snap has accumulated a vast collection of cards over the past year. However, competitive players often ignore some of these cards, which still hold significant power and can add new possibilities to your deck building. This article will explore some of these forgotten cards and their potential.
Jessica Jones
One such card is Jessica Jones. She is a powerhouse in the game's early stages, but she needs to be remembered by players entering Series 3 and beyond. However, now is the perfect opportunity to bring her back into the meta. Recently, she received a buff that sets her power at 9 while on board, making her an ideal choice for big drops since she can dodge below Shang-Chi's range. Rescue is another card with similar features, but the added benefit of a beautiful synergy with Storm makes Jessica Jones the better option.
Here is a great deck featuring her, but don’t be discouraged from making your decks with Jessica Jones.
Jessica Lockdown
This deck is quite simple. You make early power using your cards. Just be careful not to cancel out your Ms Marvel bonus on the sidelines (even if she is not in your hand, she can be played later for that sweet 15 power). Deny your opponent's options by playing Storm and Professor X. On turn 6, you have options but want to choose between Doctor Doom and Alioth. They are both compelling but for very different reasons.
Ghost
As a 1-cost 2 power card paired with an effect that could be detrimental, she seems useless at first glance. But people don’t realize that she negates a vital component of playing Marvel Snap: the dance, for priority. As you may know, you can't have priority if you want your cards revealed after your opponent’s. With Ghost, you can ignore that and play cards like Sera and Zabu with counter cards like Shang-Chi, Enchantress, and Shadow King. With her, you will hit your opponent’s cards every time. Not bad for a 1 energy card, right? Just be careful about Alioth ruining your strategy.
Here is a deck for you to try out:
Sera and Friends
I must be honest: I love playing cards and do not care about priority. That’s a big problem. Whenever I play Sera, I lose extra hard because I get priority and can’t deny their powerful endgame stuff with my Shang or Enchantress. That’s why we have Ghost in this deck, and she is the unsung hero for those like me who like to play their power early but enjoy destroying your opponent’s hopes and dreams with Denial answer cards.
Spider-Woman
Oh, Spider-Woman, how did you join this group? Spider-Woman is extra awesome. She can potentially be a 5-cost 12 power difference; her only competition is Gamora, but Spider-Woman has the advantage of not being ‘Shangable.’ Not only does Spider-Woman avoid Shang-Chi, but her most extensive tech counter, Luke Cage, is nowhere to be found within this meta after his nerf. I can see why people wouldn’t want to play her because they want their 5 drops to be deck-defining like Sera, Modok, or Annihilus. She isn’t like those, but she can complement decks like one else if you want power for 5 mana.
This time, I’m featuring a Deck another team member made. Here’s the list:
BEWD Spice
Our Chief Content Editor created this deck list, and I have to say, it’s incredible! I get frustrated whenever I play Lockjaw decks due to never drawing him. But, with this deck, I never had this issue. This deck doesn't have to rely on Lockjaw every game. That means, even if you are unlucky like me and don’t draw the good boy, you are still very competitive to win most matches.
Magneto
As a 6-cost with 12-power, he looks like a better Hulk, but he is much more than that. Let me give you an example: right now, there are tons of people having fun with Miss Marvel. By playing Magneto, you can ruin the extra power Ms Marvel provides and still drop a powerful finisher in your games. Magneto's disruptiveness is no joke, from pulling every card that a Darkhawk deck uses to ruining Wong’s final turn by pulling him out of the on-reveals. Magneto is a great card that you could slot into many decks, but people have forgotten his power. Try him out in this deck for starters:
Black Knight Shenanigans
This deck is quite challenging to pilot well, but it is versatile and powerful. You have Zabu and Sera for tons of discounts and surprising plays. Imagine playing a 2-cost 12-power Ebony Blade on one lane and dropping a 2-cost Ghost Rider that brings back a Magneto that disrupts your opponent’s play. Even after all that, you would still have mana for a possible Shang-Chi on a third location to send your opponent to the Shadow Realm.
Dracula
I know he still has a presence in the metagame due to the prominence in the discard list featuring Apocalypse. But people must remember that he can be instrumental in decks that don’t need to discard cards. By putting Infinaut, Red Skull, Destroyer, or other powerful cards like that in the same deck, you practically guarantee that you are playing a 4 mana 14 power in the least. The secret is making sure that you can get most of your other weaker cards to raise your chances of Dracula Grabbing something big to snack on.
Here is a deck for you to try out:
Dracula Blades'
As you can see, we have quite a few big guys and ways to drop their power onto the board without spending 6 mana on them. We can discard them and then bring them back with Ghost Rider. If we get a powerful Ebony Blade, that will also help. We have our Dracula to get big without worrying about Shang-Chi, and in the last turn, we can play some big cards like a discounted Skaar with a Maximus or just a Giganto to guarantee the left location.
This article mainly shows how some cards you don’t consider playing right now can still be powerful, even without meta shifts. I hope that it was enough to inspire you to express your individuality through deck building. Crafting a deck on your own can be challenging, but it is also highly satisfying. Try to make the most unconventional deck you can with cards you've never used. You might be surprised by your success or by how hard you fail, but don’t stop brewing new stuff. The game thrives on strategy and the joy of exploration. So, consider the overlooked marvels when you’re trying to make your new deck.
