The Game Plan
Discard as an archetype has had a bad rap for being inconsistent. However, since M.O.D.O.K.'s release in the game that stereotype has changed entirely!
The main idea with this deck is to have M.O.D.O.K. in our hand by turn 5 with extra help from Crystal and America Chavez, and then play him for massive value. We have low-cost value generation with Sunspot, Nebula, Colleen Wing and Swarm that then support our main combos with Morbius, Storm, and Dracula.
The Decklist
- Sunspot is an easy to include card due to his energy efficiency, and is a good backup for Nebula.
- Nebula pressures our opponent, benefits from our Storm lane and is easy points on the board.
- Morbius is a must have in this deck as he can easily scale to 10+ power and works well in our Storm lane.
- Swarm works in a number of ways, both pairing well with Colleen Wing and M.O.D.O.K. but can be an issue if there isn't enough board space. Having them out of hand means a bigger discard for Dracula, so plan carefully to make sure they don't take over your hand!
- Colleen Wing is a solid card that adds a little to our Morbius, but is mostly used for discarding Swarm.
- Storm allows for location disruption and can easily garner a win when paired with Morbius or Dracula to give the lane huge stats.
- Lady Sif is here to discard our Apocalypse while adding a tiny bit to Morbius.
- Dracula works really well with Storm to steal a lane. To achieve the high power he can offer, making sure to empty your hand by turn 6 for either Apocalypse or America Chavez to be discarded is crucial.
- Crystal may seem like an odd pick, but increasing your chances to draw M.O.D.O.K. or Apocalypse can be really clutch, and at worst provides a little extra power to Morbius by keeping our hand big.
- M.O.D.O.K. is the star of this deck and makes it so much more consistent than any other card could. He buffs Morbius and Apocalypse, duplicates Swarm and has 8 power of his own to put on the board.
- Apocalypse works as both an alright turn 6 play and as a Dracula sponge. He has multiple ways of getting to 16 power and is really integral to the deck.
- America Chavez thins our deck a little to give us a higher chance of drawing M.O.D.O.K. on turn 5, gives us a solid 9 power to play on turn 6, or acts as good fuel for our Dracula.
The Wrap-Up
This deck archetype has been pretty standardized, but I'd like to think my inclusion of 1-drops and Crystal makes it stand out a bit. I find it's a consistent deck too for climbing.
