The Game Plan
Good cards. The plan is to play good cards.
Jokes aside, this deck is one of many "Good Cards" lists I've made, and it's because I really enjoy piecing together a win with cards that never fail to impress me. Cards with good numbers for their cost, like Hydra Bob, Speed, and Jessica Jones. Cards that can stop our opponent like Alioth, Magneto, and Shang-Chi. Cards that can give us surprising wins, like Copycat, Jeff the Baby Landshark, and Hawkeye Kate Bishop.
When you mash them all together, you get ~20 power in two lanes that can eek out a win against almost any deck. That's why I call this list "Oatmeal"; it's simple, but good.
The Decklist
- Nebula is a really versatile card. She can win some locations on her own, can trick our opponent into playing in a bad location (like Necrosha), and can give us information on where our opponent is likely to play next.
- Hydra Bob is a big guy, and his ability to flex in and out of lanes with Jeff makes him a stellar 1 drop to use to our advantage.
- Hawkeye Kate Bishop is a flexible curve-filler that can help provide a bonus to Speed and get some crazy value with her arrows. I have won a surprising amount of games by playing Grapple Arrow on 5, and then Magneto on 6 in another location.
- Jeff the Baby Land Shark is a very flexible card. He can win locations by himself, work with Hyrda Bob to shift power later in the game, or just hold a space for a bigger card later.
- Speed is great stats for the cost and a great incentive to use our energy wisely. Almost every game he is a 3/8, and he often gets to 3/9, which is just stellar.
- Copycat is a big cube stealer in this deck. Getting to know whether or not our opponent's key card is on the bottom of their deck is already great, but sometimes she turns into a card so much more powerful than her cost that she just wins the game on her own.
- Shang-Chi is a is a classic and reliable tech card to stop our opponent's greedy plays and help us catch up to combo lists that go way above our heads.
- Jessica Jones recently received a buff, but I think she works in this list either way. With Hydra Bob and Jeff, her condition is so easy to work around and doesn't require the dedication that Speed does sometimes.
- Scarlet Spider is easy value, pure and simple. If you play him right, he's a mini Doctor Doom that can help round out our power at the end of the game. He also works with Hydra Bob and Jeff at the end of the game to shift power in a surprising way.
- Iron Man is another way to go over the top of powerful lanes if Shang-Chi doesn't cut it. I find that pairing him up in the same lane as Speed or Copycat is usually correct, although it obviously might change game to game.
- Alioth is an amazing finisher, both to shut down a big combo and to protect our more vulnerable cards like Iron Man.
- Magneto is another great finisher, and people still don't account for his effect at the end of the game. He can also serve a similar purpose to Alioth by moving a card like Wong or Sebastian Shaw to stop a huge combo.
The Wrap-Up
This deck is doing incredibly well for me, and I'm going to try to stick with it this season and see how far it gets me. I have no doubt I'll make another similar but different list in the future, lol.
